Abstract

Kemampuan komunikasi matematis merupakan salah satu kompetensi yang perlu dipenuhi dalam pembelajaran matematika. Namun, pada kenyataannya terdapat siswa yang belum dapat mengomunikasikan gagasan matematis secara tertulis, termasuk pada materi sistem persamaan linear tiga variabel. Perbedaan gender antara laki-laki dan perempuan ternyata memiliki pengaruh terhadap kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA pada materi sistem persamaan linear tiga variabel yang ditinjau dari perbedaan gender. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus kepada 36 orang siswa laki-laki dan 19 orang siswa perempuan, kemudian diklasifikasikan menjadi tiga kategori komunikasi matematis yaitu, rendah, sedang, dan tinggi serta berdasarkan jenis kelamin laki-laki dan perempuan. Hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA pada materi SPLTV didominasi oleh kategori sedang dengan persentase 70,9091% dan lebih dominan memenuhi indikator pertama yaitu menyatakan peristiwa sehari-hari dalam bahasa atau simbol matematika. Siswa laki-laki dengan kategori sedang dan tinggi memiliki kemampuan komunikasi matematis lebih unggul daripada siswa perempuan. Sedangkan, untuk kemampuan komunikasi matematis rendah baik siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan tidak ditemukan perbedaan signifikan, masing-masing memenuhi satu indikator saja dan secara umum keduanya belum memahami materi sistem persamaan linear tiga variabel secara mandalam. Mathematical communication ability is one of the competencies that has to be accomplished in learning mathematics. However, in reality there are students who have not been able to communicate mathematical ideas in writing, including the material for a three-variable linear equation system. Gender differences between men and women turned out to have an influence on students mathematical communication skills. This study aims to analyze the mathematical communication skills of high school students on three-variable system of linear equations materials in terms of gender differences. This research was conducted using a qualitative method with a case study approach to 36 male students and 19 female students which was classified into three categories of mathematical communication, namely, low, medium, and high and based on genders. The results of the study found that the mathematical communication skills of high school students on three-variable linear equation system materials were dominated by the medium category with a percentage of 70.9091% and dominantly fulfilled the first indicator, namely expressing daily events in mathematical language or symbols. The research showed that male students in the medium and high categories had superior mathematical communication skills than female students. Meanwhile, for the low mathematical communication skills of both male and female students, there was no significant difference, each of which met only one indicator and in general, both of them did not understand the material of the three-variable linear equation system comprehensively.
