Abstract
One aspect of language skills found in the primary school learning curriculum is reading ability.Reading plays an important role in learning and there needs to be special attention from teachers in order for students to be skilled in reading.Researchers chose to take secondary data where it prioritized literature studies to avoid direct contact with many people.Knowing the process of reading the beginning and also the results of the use of word card media against the ability to read early in grade 1 students in elementary school is the purpose of this study.Based on the results of the analysis of literature studies that have been conducted by researchers, the results obtained by the previous researchers explained that the interaction activities of learners with teachers when the process of reading the beginning using card media is done with 4 stages that begin with planning, action, observation and the last is evaluation.For the result of the increase in mastery of reading the beginning by utilizing this word card media which was started by previous researchers with pre-activity obtained an average percentage of 59.2%, results with an average of 68.8% obtained in cycle I, and obtained an average of 75.2% in cycle II, and cycle III got results with an average of 78%. Based on secondary data, namely interviews, the source said that the process of reading startups using word card media can improve students' initial reading skills compared to conventional ways before and can make students active in the classroom because it is directly involved during the learning process.Seeing this, shows that the process of teaching and learning activities to recite the initial reading by utilizing the medium of word cards can improve reading skills in elementary school 1st graders.
