Abstract

ABSTRAK Model mental merupakan representasi internal yang dibentuk individu dalam menjelaskan suatu konsep. Penelitian sebelumnya mengenai model mental tentang materi bakteri telah dilakukan pada mahasiswa, namun belum dilakukan pada siswa SMA. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis model mental siswa SMA tentang bakteri. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan 30 siswa kelas X di salah satu SMA di Kota Bandung sebagai responden. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes menggambar-menulis dan peta konsep. Kuesioner dan wawancara digunakan sebagai informasi tambahan dalam menganalisis jawaban siswa. Jawaban siswa kemudian dibandingkan dengan model mental ahli sebagai model mental yang ditargetkan. Model mental siswa melalui tes menggambar-menulis dikategorikan menjadi lima level (level 1-5), yaitu tidak ada gambar/ tulisan, gambar/ tulisan salah atau tidak relevan, gambar/ tulisan benar sebagian, gambar/ tulisan ada beberapa kesalahan, gambar/ tulisan benar dan lengkap. Model mental siswa melalui peta konsep dikategorikan menjadi empat level (level 1-4), yaitu emergent, transtitional, close to extended, extended. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan siswa lebih mudah merepresentasikan struktur dan reproduksi bakteri melalui gambar dibandingkan tulisan. Model mental siswa melalui menggambar (D) dan menulis (W) yang paling tinggi terdapat pada level D5 dan W5 untuk konsep struktur dan reproduksi bakteri. Level model mental yang paling dominan adalah D4/W2 untuk konsep struktur dan reproduksi bakteri. Model mental siswa terendah D2/W2 untuk konsep struktur bakteri dan D1/W1 untuk konsep reproduksi bakteri. Model mental siswa melalui peta konsep menunujukkan tingkatan tertinggi adalah level 3 (close to extended). Level model mental yang paling dominan dan terendah adalah level 1 (emergent). Previous research on mental models of bacterial material has been carried out on university students, but has not been carried out on high school students. The purpose of this study was to analyze the mental model of high school students about bacteria. This study uses a descriptive method with 30 students of class X in one high school in Bandung as respondents. The instruments used are drawing-writing tests and concept maps. Questionnaires and interviews were used as additional information in analyzing student answers. Students' answers are then compared with the expert's mental model as the targeted mental model. Students' mental models through the drawing-writing test are categorized into five levels (levels 1-5), namely no pictures/writing, pictures/writings are wrong or irrelevant, pictures/writing are partially correct, pictures/writings have some errors, pictures/writings correct and complete. Students' mental models through concept maps are categorized into four levels (levels 1-4), namely emergent, transitional, close to extended, extended. The results showed that it was easier for students to represent the structure and reproduction of bacteria through pictures than writing. The students' mental models through drawing (D) and writing (W) were highest at levels D5 and W5 for the concept of bacterial structure and reproduction. The most dominant mental model level is D4/W2 for the concept of bacterial structure and reproduction. The lowest mental model of students is D2/W2 for the concept of bacterial structure and D1/W1 for the concept of bacterial reproduction. Students' mental models through concept maps show that the highest level is level 3 (close to extended). The most dominant and lowest level of mental model is level 1 (emergent).
