Abstract
This study aims to analyze the level of argumentation and decision making process of junior high school students through the implementation of a argument driven inquiry learning model based on socioscientific issue. The research method used was a quasi-experimental research design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population was 277 people at one of the junior high schools in West Bandung Regency for the 2018/2019 academic year with a research sample of 52 people who came from two classes selected through cluster random sampling. The instrument used was an argumentation ability essay test, and a decision-making process essay test. Argumentation skills are analyzed using the Toulmin argument pattern framework to see the argumentation components contained therein so that each student's argumentation level is known. The decision making process is analyzed by looking at the N-gain and hypothesis testing. The results showed that there was a tendency to increase the level of argumentation from those previously at level 1 and 2, the distribution at levels 2, 3 and 4. As for the decision-making process, hypothesis test results show the increase in the decision making process of the experimental class is higher than the control class. It can be concluded that the application of an argument driven inqruiry learning model based on socioscientific issues provides an increase in the level of argumentation and decision making process.
