Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh adanya masalah pada kemampuan representasi matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita geometri dan pengukuran tentang bangun datar. Siswa belum mampu membuat gambar bangun geometri untuk membantu dalam menyelesaikan soal, belum mampu menggunakan persamaan atau ekspresi matematis, dan belum percaya diri dalam menuangkan kata-kata. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi visual, persamaan atau ekspresi matematis, dan verbal atau kata-kata siswa Kelas IV Sekolah Dasar dalam menyelesaiikan soal cerita geometri dan pengukuran tentang bangun datar. Penelitian yang dilakukan ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes uraian, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data yang digunakan terdiri dari beberapa langkah yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IV Sekolah Dasar dengan jumlah 24 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata kemampuan representasi visual matematis adalah 39,3, kemampuan representasi persamaan atau ekspresi matematis 18,0, dan kemampuan representasi verbal atau kata-kata 28,7. Capaian tersebut masuk ke dalam kategori kurang sekali, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan representasi visual, persamaan atau ekspresi matematis, dan verbal atau kata-kata siswa Kelas IV dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita pada materi geometri dan pengukuran tentang bangun datar masih kurang sekali. Diharapkan hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi patokan bagi guru untuk senantiasa memperhatikan dan mengembangkan metode dan media pembelajaran serta memberikan siswa kesempatan menuangkan gagasan atau ide para siswa untuk melatih kemampuan representasi matematis siswa. ------ Thisresearch was motivated by a problem in the ability of students to represent mathematical representations in solving geometrical wordproblems and measurements of 2dshapes. Students have not been able to draw geometric shapes to help solve problems, have not been able to use mathematical equations or expressions, and are not confident in pouring words. Therefore, this study aims to describe the ability of visual representation, mathematical equations or expressions, and verbal or the words of fourth grade elementary school students in completing geometric story problems and measurements of flat shapes. This research is conducted using a qualitative approach with the research design used is descriptive research. Data collection techniques used in this study were test descriptions, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis used consisted of several steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Participants in this study were 24 grade IV elementary school students. The resultsshowed that the average value of the mathematical visual representation ability was 39.3, the ability to represent mathematical equations or expressions was 18.0, and the ability to represent verbal or words was 28.7. This achievement falls into the very poor category, so it can be concluded that the ability of visual representation, mathematical equations or expressions, and verbal or the words of Grade IV students in solving story problems on geometry material and measurement of flat shapes is still lacking. It is hoped that the results of this study can become a benchmark for teachers to always pay attention to and develop learning methods and media and give students the opportunity to express their ideas or ideas to practice students' mathematical representation skills.
