Abstract

Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah penggunaan teks dalam Kurikulum 2013 yang menjadi salah satu bagian penting sebagai sumber informasi dalam rangka mencapai kompetensi dasar. Hasil PIRLS tahun 2006 dan 2011 mengindikasikan siswa di Indonesia mengalami kendala membaca pemahaman yang nampak dalam proses integrasi, inferensi, maupun interpretasi informasi dalam teks yang dibaca. Keterlambatan penanganan kesulitan dalam membaca pemahaman, dapat berdampak kepada potensi kesulitan belajar lainnya yang dapat dialami siswa di masa mendatang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara komprehensif kesulitan siswa dalam membaca pemahaman teks eksposisi dan faktor-faktor penyebab kesulitan siswa dalam membaca pemahaman teks eksposisi di kelas IV sekolah dasar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 27 siswa kelas IV SDN Ciherang di Kecamatan Rancaekek. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes dan kuesioner. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, ditemukan bahwa kesulitan membaca pemahaman teks eksposisi yang dialami siswa ditunjukkan pada indikator penggunaan strategi membaca, dengan persentase kesulitan sebesar 92,6% dan pada indikator perbendaharaan kosakata dengan persentase kesulitan sebesar 63%. Sebagian besar responden menyetujui bahwa ketidakefektifan penggunaan strategi membaca (96,3%) dan keterbatasan kosakata, dengan persetujuan lebih dari setengah responden (66,7%), sebagai faktor penyebab kesulitan membaca pemahaman teks eksposisi yang mereka alami. ----- The background of this research is the use of text in the 2013 Curriculum which is an important part as a source of information to achieve basic competencies. The results of the 2006 and 2011 PIRLS indicated that Indonesian students experienced problems in reading comprehension which appeared in the process of integration, inference, and interpretation of information in the text being read. Delays in handling difficulties in reading comprehension can have an impact on the potential for other learning difficulties that students may experience in the future. This research aims to comprehensively analyze student’s difficulties in reading comprehension of expository text and the factors that cause the student’s difficulties in reading comprehension of expository text. The research method used was descriptive with quantitative approach. The sample of this research was 27 fourth grade students of SDN Ciherang in Rancaekek Sub-district. The instruments used in this research were test and questionnaire. The data analysis used in this research was descriptive statistics. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the difficulty in reading comprehension of expository text experienced by students was shown in the indicator of using reading strategy with a difficulty percentage of 92,6% and in the indicator of vocabulary knowledge with a difficulty percentage of 63%. Most of the respondents agreed that the ineffective use of reading strategies (96,3%) and limited vocabulary knowledge, with the agreement of more than half of the respondents (66,7%), were the causative factors of difficulty in reading comprehension of expository text that they experienced.
