Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh perkembangan pesat di bidang teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK) yang mendukung akselerasi penyebaran informasi secara luas melalui internet. Namun, penyebaran informasi tersebut menimbulkan permasalahan lain dalam hal kualitas informasi, diantaranya berkembangnya hoaks dan permasalahan kredibilitas informasi. Permasalahan kredibilitas informasi membuat publik, terutama pelajar mengalami kesulitan ketika memilah informasi dalam proses pencarian informasi. Di sisi lain, mesin pencarian daring seperti Google Search telah menjadi sarana populer yang digunakan oleh masyarakat dalam proses pencarian informasi di internet. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui besaran kontribusi kualitas informasi dalam menjelaskan perilaku pencarian informasi mahasiswa ketika menggunakan Google Search. Aspek kualitas informasi yang diteliti adalah aspek perspektif pengguna, sementara aspek perilaku pencarian informasi yang diteliti adalah aspek understand, plan & execution dan evaluation & use. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah survei. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah proportionate stratified random sampling. Partisipan penelitian ini adalah 52 Mahasiswa Program studi Perpustakaan dan Sains Informasi dari Angkatan 2016, Angkatan 2017 dan Angkatan 2018. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah uji korelasi dan koefisien determinasi. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat korelasi yang positif, lemah dan signifikan antara kualitas informasi dan perilaku pencarian informasi. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kualitas informasi berkontribusi rendah dalam menjelaskan perilaku pencarian informasi mahasiswa dalam menggunakan Google Search. This research is motivated by the rapid development of information and communication technology (ICT) which supports the acceleration of the widespread dissemination of information via the internet. However, information dissemination raises other problems in terms of information quality, including the spread of hoaxes and information credibility issues. The issue of information credibility makes the public, especially students, have difficulty in selecting information in the information search process. On the other hand, online search engines such as Google Search have become a popular tool used by the public in the process of finding information on the internet. This research is conducted to find out the magnitude of the contribution pertaining to information quality in explaining information seeking behavior of students when using Google Search. Information quality aspects researched are the perspective aspects of the users, meanwhile information seeking behavior aspects researched are the aspects of understand, plan & execution and evaluation & use. The research method used is a survey. The sampling technique used is proportionate stratified probability sampling. The participants of this research are 52 students of the Library and Information Science Study Program from Class 2016, Class 2017 and Class 2018. Data analysis used is the correlation test and the coefficient of determination. The findings of this study indicate that there is a positive, weak and significant correlation between information quality and information seeking behavior. This shows that information quality has a low contribution in explaining student information search behavior when using Google Search.
