Abstract

Mahasiswa teknik tahun pertama yang tentunya baru memasuki jenjang perguruan tinggi memiliki beragam tugas dan perkembangan yang harus dilalui untuk membentuk suatu karakter. Program studi Pendidikan Teknik Elektro (PTE) merupakan bagian dari Fakultas Pendidikan Teknologi dan Kejuruan Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (FPTK UPI). Selain dituntut memiliki kemampuan sebagai calon pendidik mahasiswa Pendidikan Teknik Elektro disisi lain juga memiliki kompetensi dalam keahlian sebagai engineer. Karena program studi Pendidikan Teknik elektro difokuskan mahasiswanya untuk menjadi calon pendidik, basic mengenai Engineering Identity dipertanyakan. Penelitian tentang engineering identity umumnya difokuskan pada apakah mahasiswa menganggap atau melihat diri mereka sebagai seorang engineer dan budaya serta kualitas yang seperti apa yang diperlukan untuk menjadi seorang engineer yang sesuai dengan Kompetensi dan Kode Etik Insinyur Indonesia. Berdasarkan hal tersebut dilakukan mengenai penelitian tentang engineering identity yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Teknik Elektro meliputi karakter dan tingkat kepribadian engineering identity tahun pertama dan tahun kedua. Metode yang digunakan yaitu mixed methods dimana prioritas penelitian kuantitatif dan kualitatif sebagai penguat jawaban untuk hasil kuantitatif. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap 102 responden mahasiswa (PTE) angkatan 2018 sebagai tahun kedua dan 2019 tahun pertama. Hasil pembahasan mengenai engineering identity didapatkan sebagai berikut: (1) Karakter engineering identity yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa PTE dikategorikan tinggi, mahasiswa percaya diri memiliki sikap dan kompetensi yang sesuai dengan kompetensi engineer oleh PII; (2) Engineering Identity yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa Pendidikan Teknik Elektro dikategorikan tinggi, dimana engineering identity tingkat kedua lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan tingkat pertama, hal ini dipengaruhi oleh perbedaan pengalaman dalam perkuliahan keteknikan. ; First year engineering students whom have just entered the tertiary level have various tasks and developments that must be passed to form a character. The Electrical Engineering of Education (PTE) study program is part of the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education, Indonesia University of Education (FPTK UPI). In addition to being required to have the ability as prospective electrical engineering education student educators, meanwhile, they also have competence in expertise as an engineer. Because the Engineering Education study program is focused on students to become prospective educators, the basis of Technical Identity is questionable. Research on engineering identity is generally based on whether students perceive or see themselves as an engineer and the culture and qualities required to become an engineer that conforms to the Competencies and Code of Ethics of Indonesian Engineers. Based on this, research was carried out on the engineering identities possessed by students of the Electrical Engineering of Education Study Program including the character and personality levels of identity skills in the first and second years. The method used is a mixed method where quantitative and qualitative research is used to reinforce the answers to quantitative results. This research was conducted on 102 student respondents (PTE) class 2018 as the second year and 2019 in the first year. The results of the discussion regarding engineering identity were as follows: (1) The character of engineering identity possessed by PTE students was categorized as high, students were confident in having attitudes and competencies that matched the competence of engineers by PII; (2) Engineering identities possessed by students of Electrical Engineering of Education are categorized as high, where the second-level engineering identities are higher than those of the first level, this is found by variations in experience in engineering lectures.
