Abstract
Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah keprihatinan peneliti dengan kondisi sering ditemuinya tumpukan sampah di lingkungan sekitar SMPN 1 Muara Enim dan kelas VII.2 yang disebabkan peserta didik kurang peduli membuang sampah hasil komsumsi makanan jajanan dan sampah dari aktifitas belajar bukan pada tempatnya. Kondisi lainnya adalah interaksi belajar IPS di SMPN 1 Muara Enim yang bersifat satu arah dan belum digunakannya lingkungan sebagai sumber belajar IPS. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bermaksud memanfaatkan lingkungan sebagai sumber belajar IPS untuk meningkatkan kompetensi ecoliteracy peserta didik. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas dengan model spiral dari Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart (1998). Ketiga siklus menggunakan Project Based Learning. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peneliti dan guru mitra telah merancang dan melaksanakan pembelajaran dengan baik selama tiga siklus, serta mampu mengupayakan untuk mengatasi setiap kendala. Data hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan nilai rata-rata kompetensi ecoliteracy peserta didik dari siklus satu, kedua, dan ketiga yaitu sebesar 82, 86 dan 88. Pada siklus terakhir, peserta didik yang memiliki kompetensi ecoliteracy dalam kategori baik sebanyak 97%. Aspek pengetahuan dan spirit mengalami peningkatan nilai di setiap siklus. Aspek hands dan heart mengalami peningkatan dari siklus satu ke siklus dua dan mengalami kondisi stabil di siklus ketiga. Dengan demikian hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa melalui pemanfaatan lingkungan sebagai sumber belajar IPS dapat meningkatkan kompetensi ecoliteracy peserta didik.;--- The present study was inspired by the researcher’s sympathy towards abundant number of garbage around SMP N 1 Muara Enim environment and in classroom VII.2. This happens since students do not waste some garbage from their food, drink, and learning activity on the proper place. Another condition is one way interaction of social studies learning in SMP N 1 Muara Enim and the teachers do not utilize the environment as a learning source. Therefore, the present study intends to utilize environment as social studies learning source to improve students’ ecoliteracy competence. The research method used in the present study was classroom action research with spiral model adopted from Kemmis and Mc. Taggart (1998). The three cycles used Project Based Learning. The result of study reveals that the researcher and the teachers at school designed and conducted the learning process successfully during the three cycles. In addition, they could cope with the existing challenges well. The result of study shows that the improvement mean values of students’ ecoliteracy competence from the first, the second, and the third cycle were 82, 86, and 88. At the last cycle, there was 97 % of students whose ecoliteracy competence category was good. In each cycle, cognitive and spirit aspect acquired the improvement value. Hands and heart aspect obtained improvement value at the first till the second cycle, but they were in stable condition in the third cycle.
