Abstract

Penelitian ini didasarkan pada masih rendahnya kualitas pembelajaran IPA di sekolah dasar dalam mengimplementasikan pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan proses kognitif dan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambaran perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan proses kognitif dan keterampilan berpikir kritis antara siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan brain based learning dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional. Metode penelitian yang digunakan quasi experiment dengan desain penelitian The matching-only pretest-posttest control group design. Penelitian dilaksanakan di kelas V SD Negeri 1 Suci dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 26 siswa kelas eksperimen dan 26 siswa kelas kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur kemampuan proses kognitif berupa 30 soal pilihan ganda, sedangkan untuk mengukur keterampilan berpikir kritis berupa 7 soal berbentuk uraian. Data pretest dan posttest diolah menggunakan bantuan program SPSS 20 for Windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: 1) peningkatan kemampuan proses kognitif siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan brain based learning lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional; 2) peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan brain based learning lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan konvensional;--- This research is based on the low quality of elementary schools’ Science learning in implementing the learning process which can improve students’ cognitive process ability and critical thinking skill. This research aims to obtain the description about dissimilarities of improvement of cognitive process ability and critical thinking skill between the students who learned through brain based learning approach and the students who learned through conventional approach. The research method used in this research is quasi experiment with The matching-only pretest-posttest control group design.The research was conducted in 5th grade of State Elementary School 1 Suci involving 26 sample students from experiment class and 26 sample students from control class. The instruments used to measure the students’ cognitive process ability are multiple choice questions. Meanwhile, the ones used to measure the students’ critical thinking skill are 7 essay questions. Pretest and posttest data were processed using SPSS 20 for Windows program. Results of the research show: 1) Improvement of cognitive process ability of the students who learned through brain based learning approach is higher than the improvement of the students who learned through conventional approach; 2) Improvement of critical thinking skill of the students who learned through brain based learning approach is higher than the improvement of the students who learned through conventional approach
