Abstract
Mutu merupakan suatu proses yang menunjukkan bahwa tidak hanya input atau hasil saja yang penting tetapi interaksi intra-kelembagaan pada peseta didik, guru dan pendidik lainnya, atau "kualitas hidup" dari program, sekolah atau sistem, yang dihargai. Permasalahan pada penelitian ini adalah rendahnya mutu pendidikan sekolah menengah khususnya SMK berdasarkan tingkat pencapaian kompetensi lulusan di Kabupaten Karawang. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan ini, diperlukan kepala sekolah yang mampu menciptakan iklim sekolah yang aman dan nyaman untuk meningkatkan mutu sekolah. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk menguji pengaruh perilaku kepemimpinan kepala sekolah dan iklim sekolah terhadap mutu sekolah SMK teknologi dan rekayasa Kabupaten Karawang. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, dimana instrument penelitian berbentuk angket dengan skala Likert. Responden terdiri sari 35 kepala sekolah, 35 tata usaha, 35 komite sekolah dan 82 guru SMK. Pengolahan data menggunakan teknik analisis korelasi dan regresi ganda. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan dan analisis data ditemukan bahwa mutu sekolah dan perilaku kepemimpinan kepala sekolah berada pada kategori tinggi, Sedangkan iklim sekolah termasuk ke dalam kategori sangat tinggi. Perilaku kepemimpinan kepala sekolah berpengaruh terhadap mutu sekolah, iklim sekolah berpengaruh terhadap mutu sekolah dan secara bersama-sama perilaku kepemimpinan kepala sekolah dan iklim sekolah berpengaruh terhadap mutu sekolah. Adapun rekomendasi yang disarankan pada penelitian ini untuk meningkatkan mutu sekolah adalah sebagai berikut (1) mengadakan pemantapan dan mengikuti ekstrakurikuler untuk meningkatkan output dan outcome seklah (2) melibatkan guru dalam setiap kegiatan sekolah (3) mengadakan kegiatan liburan atau field trip bersama setiap akhir tahun.;---Quality as process suggests that not only inputs or results but also the nature of the intra-institutional interaction of students, teachers and other educators, or "quality of life" of the program, school or system, is valued. The Problems of this research is a low quality of education especially vocational high school based on the level of achievement of competency in Karawang Regency. To solved this problem, we need principals who are able to create a school climate that is safe and comportable to improve the quality of school. The purpose of the research was to determine and analyze influence of the principal leadership behavior and school climate at vocational high school of technology and engineering in Karawang Regency. This research used a quantitative approach, and the instrument was a questionnaire with Likert scale. The participant of the study were 35 principals, 35 staff, 35 school committee and 82 teachers from 35 vocational high schools. Analysis of data used correlation and regression analysis. The overall findings are school quality and principal leadership behavior was high level. While the school climate was very high level. Research Result showed that principal leadership behavior influenced on the quality of school, school climate influenced on the quality of schools and collectively principal leadership behavior and school climate influenced on quality of the school. The suggested recommendations on this research to optimized the quality of schools are : (1) strengthening of learning and following extracurricular to increase output and outcome (2) involve teachers in any school activities (3) organizing vacation or field trip with personnel of school every once a year.
