Abstract

Penelitian dilatarbelakangi oleh kenyataan bahwa kondisi lingkungan hidup di Indonesia saat ini semakin mengalami penurunan daya dukung akibat perilaku manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat penalaran anak usia sekolah menengah pertama terhadap permasalahan lingkungan hidup dan melihat apakah terdapat perbedaan penalaran pada anak yang hidup dalam konteks lingkungan dengan kondisi yang berbeda. Perbedaan kondisi lingkungan yang diamati disini adalah berdasarkan jarak dari masing-masing wilayah penelitian terhadap satu sumber budaya yang masih memegang adat istiadat yang kental, yakni suku Baduy. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode survei. Sejumlah (n=197) siswa kelas VIII yang berasal dari 4 sekolah dari 4 kecamatan yang berada di sekitar pemukiman adat Suku Baduy, Kabupaten Lebak, Provinsi Banten terlibat sebagai sampel penelitian. Soal-soal Biologi dan Kebumian Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 1999, 2003, 2007 dan 2011 yang dipublikasikan oleh International Association for The Evaluation of Educational Achievment, angket persepsi penalaran siswa, dan wawancara terstruktur digunakan sebagai instrumen. Dalam menjawab pertanyaan terkait lingkungan hidup, siswa diberikan pernyataan pengarah untuk mengungkap cara pengambilan keputusan dan tingkat keyakinan siswa yang terintegrasi dalam lembar jawaban pada masing-masing butir soal. Selain itu dilihat hasil empiris capaian, tingkat keyakinan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal, dan konsepsi penalaran siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan dan penalaran siswa terkait permasalahan lingkungan masih rendah dan semakin jauh keberadaan siswa dari pemukiman Suku Baduy semakin rendah juga pengetahuan dan penalaran siswa, Kata Kunci: Penalaran, Masalah Lingkungan Hidup, Suku Baduy, The study was motivated by the fact that the environmental conditions in Indonesia is increasingly decreasing carrying capacity due to human behavior. This study aims to look at reasoning of student of secondary school on environmental issues and see if there are differences in reasoning in children who live in the context of environmental conditions are different. The observed differences in environmental conditions herein are based on the distance of the respective area of research to one source culture that still holds strong traditions, the Baduy tribe. The study was conducted using a survey method. A number (n = 197) class VIII derived from the four schools of four districts in the surrounding indigenous settlements Baduy, Lebak, Banten province involved as research samples. Problems of Biology and Earth Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011, published by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, perceptual reasoning student questionnaires and structured interviews are used as instruments. In answering a question related to the environment, students are given a statement referring to reveal how decision-making and the level of students' beliefs that are integrated in the answer sheets on each of the items. Additionally seen empirical results achievement, confidence level of students in solving and reasoning conceptions of students.
