Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi dari permasalahan yang ditemukan di lapangan bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis teks berita. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan yang signifikan penerapan metode think, pair and share dalam pembelajaran menulis teks berita di kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen kuasi dengan desain nonequivalent control group design. Sampel dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari dua kelompok, yang terdiri dari 30 orang kelompok di kelas kontrol dan 30 orang kelompok di kelas eksperimen yang diambil secara purposive sampling. Kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa sebelum mendapat perlakuan secara keseluruhan masih kurang maksimal. Hal itu tergambar pada perolehan nilai pretest di kelas eksperimen mendapat nilai rata-rata sebesar 41, sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar 46,8. Pada saat posttest kelas eksperimen mendapat nilai sebesar 80, sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar 53,8. Kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol mengalami peningkatan. Hal tersebut berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa kelas VIII SMP Laboratorium School UPI Cibiru Bandung diperoleh hasil ttabel ≤ thitung ≥ ttabel, yaitu 2,0021 ≤ 9,05 ≥ 2,0021. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian hipotesis ini mengacu kepada Ha dan dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis teks berita siswa kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol, lalu dibuktikannya bahwa Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. -----------This study addresses a common issue found in secondary high school that many students have difficulties in writing news items. The study aims to investigate a significant difference in the implementation of ‘think, pair, share’ method in the experimental and control groups. The samples for each group were selected using purposive sampling which consisted of 30 students for each groups. The finding shows that before the treatment the students’ achievements in both groups were not maximal. The pre-test results of the experimental group show that the score was 41 while the control group was 46.8. However, the post-test results of the experimental group show that the average score was 80 but the control group as 53.8. It indicates that the students’ ability in writing news items in the experimental groups improved. Based on the hypothesis test of the students’ ability in writing news items in Year VIII of SMP Laboratorium School UPI Cibiru Bandung, the result shows that ttabel ≤ thitung ≥ ttabel, yaitu 2,0021 ≤ 9,05 ≥ 2,0021. Referring to Ha of the hypothesis, where Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected, there is a significant difference in the ability of writing news items between the students in the experimental and control groups.
