Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh keresahan peneliti dalam melihat masih rendahnya kemampuan berpikir kronologis siswa di kelas XI IPS 3. Hal tersebut ditandai dengan terabaikannya konsep struktur temporal dan masih rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam menunjukkan konsep kesinambungan dan sebab akibat. Sehingga permasalahan utama yang akan diteliti adalah bagaimana meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kronologis siswa melalui penerapan model cooperative learning tipe picture and picture. Model cooperative learning tipe picture and picture ini memungkinkan siswa untuk bekerja sama dalam kelompok untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran dengan dibantu media gambar. Sehingga dengan menggunakan media gambar sebagai kajian utama dapat membantu siswa untuk merekonstruksi peristiwa sejarah. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK), sementara itu peneliti menggunakan desain dari Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart yang setiap siklusnya terdiri dari perencanaan (plan), pelaksanaan (act), pengamatan (observ), dan refleksi (reflect). Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, dan studi dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilaksanakan selama empat siklus, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan yang cukup signifikan pada indikator kemampuan berpikir kronologis. Peningkatan tersebut ditandai ketika diterapkannya model cooperative learning tipe picture and picture, siswa mampu mengidentifikasi gambar berdasarkan konteks peristiwa yang tepat, munculnya kemampuan bekerja sama dalam kelompok untuk mengurutkan peristiwa berdasarkan aspek latar belakang, jalannya peristiwa dan dampaknya, siswa menjadi terbiasa dalam mencantumkan satuan waktu dengan lengkap dan meningkatnya kemampuan merekonstruksi peristiwa secara kronologis dengan dibantu media gambar. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model cooperative learning tipe picture and picture ini dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kronologis siswa. Kata Kunci: Berpikir Kronologis, Model Cooperative Learning Tipe Picture and Picture, Penelitian Tindakan Kelas Background of this research arose from the researcher’s concern to the students’ lack of ability to think chronologically in XI IPS 3 classroom. It is identified by their ignorance to temporal structure concept and low ability in demonstrating the concept of continuity and causality. So the aim of this study focuses in improving the students’ chronological thinking ability through the implementation of cooperative learning model picture and picture type. This cooperative learning model picture and picture type allows the students to work together in groups to achieve the learning purpose through pictures as its media. Therefore, by using pictures as media in learning avtivities it is aimed to help students reconstructing historical events. The method used in this study is a classroom action research (CAR), the research design is adapted from the work of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart where it consists of several cycle and each includes several phases; planning (plan), implementation (act), observations (Observe) and reflection (Reflect). The data was collected from observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results carried out during the four cycles, it can be concluded that there is a significant increase in the students’ ability to think chronologically. During the implementation of "Cooperative Learning model, picture and picture type", Students' improvements are indicated when they are; (1) able to identify pictures based on the right exact context of events; (2) able to work together in group while arranging the sequences of event based on its background, plot and what it caused; (3) getting used to write down complete time sequences and; (4) showing improvements in reconstructing events chronologically with the medium of pictures. It shows that the implementation of cooperative learning model picture and picture type can improve the students’ ability to think chronologically.
