Abstract

Wayang potehi merupakan salah satu warisan seni budaya Indonesia yang memiliki kandungan nilai seni yang tinggi. Namun saat ini, seni pertunjukan wayang potehi ini sudah mulai dilupakan oleh masyarakat khususnya etnis Tionghoa. Tujuan yang hendak dicapai dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana sejarah wayang potehi sebagai perwujudan historis budaya Tionghoa di Vihara Widhi Sakti Kota Sukabumi, mendeskripsikan bagaimana visualisasi estetis wayang potehi sebagai perwujudan budaya Tionghoa di Vihara Widhi Sakti Kota Sukabumi, serta untuk mengetahui bagaimana fungsi dan makna wayang potehi sebagai perwujudan budaya Tionghoa di Vihara Widhi Sakti Kota Sukabumi. Metodologi yang penulis gunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi dan wawancara semi-terstruktur kepada pengelola Vihara Widhi Sakti dan grup Lima Merpati dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil penelitian dikemukakan bahwa wayang potehi dipertunjukan pada kalangan umum sejak pencabutan keputusan dari pemerintah. Pada karakter dan peran wayang potehi dapat dilihat dari riasan serta bentuk wajah, kostum yang didalamnya mencakup warna, motif, dan simbol serta yang terakhir yaitu aksesoris seperti mahkota dan senjatanya. Fungsi wayang potehi adalah sebagai hiburan, sosial, ritual, dan pendidikan. Sedangkan maknanya terdiri dari makna simbolik, strategis, filosofis dan aspektual.;---Potehi puppet is one of the artistic heritage of Indonesian culture which contains a monumental art. But nowdays, the art of wayang potehi is starting to be forgotten by the people, especially by the ethnic Tionghoa. The purpose to be achieved in this research is to find out history of potehi puppet as the embodiment of historical Tionghoa culture in Widhi Sakti temple in Sukabumi, describes about aesthetic visualization of potehi puppet as the embodiment of culture in the Widhi Sakti Sukabumi, and to find out the function and the meaning of potehi puppet as the embodiment of Tionghoa culture in Widhi Sakti temple at Sukabumi. Methodology used to this research were observation and semi-structured interviews with the staff of Widhi Sakti temple and “Lima Merpati“ and documentation. The results of this research stated that the potehi puppet performed in public since the revocation of the presidential instruction. The character and the role of potehi puppet can be seen by makeup and face shape, costume that includes the colors, patterns, and symbols, and the last is an accessories such as crowns and weapons. The function of potehi puppet is as entertainment, social, religious rituals, and education. Whereas the meaning consist of symbolic, strategic, philosophical, and aspectual.
