Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh perkembangan remaja awal yang berada di tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Dalam perkembangannya remaja awal dituntut memiliki kekuatan karakter untuk mampu bertahan dan berusaha menghadapi permasalahan yang terjadi agar tujuan yang diinginkan tercapai. Persistence merupakan salah satu kekuatan karakter yang mampu membuat seseorang bertahan melewati setiap tantangan dan permasalahan dalam mencapai tujuan. Locus of control diidentifikasi dapat menjadi pemicu untuk meningkatkan persistence individu. Locus of control menujukkan keyakinan pada diri untuk melakukan kontrol sukses. Secara umum penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara locus of control dengan persistence siswa SMP Negeri 16 Bandung Tahun Ajaran 2016/2017. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan explanatory design. Metode pengambilan sampel penelitian probability sampling teknik proportionate stratified random sampling sejumlah 369 siswa. Hasil penelitian menujukkan: (1) secara umum persistence siswa berada pada kategori tinggi, (2) secara umum siswa memiliki kecenderungan locus of control internal, (3) terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan sebesar 0,119553 antara locus of control internal dengan persistence, (4) terdapat hubungan negatif dan signifikan sebesar -0,119553 antara locus of control eksternal dengan persistence. Bermakna bahwa kecenderungan locus of control dapat menentukan persistence atau kurang persistence seseorang. Hasil kondisi siswa berdasarkan penelitian ini dapat menjadi pertimbangkan untuk fokus bantuan layanan bimbingan dan konseling. ;--- The background of this research is the development of early adolescents who were in junior high school. Over time,early adolescents required to have the strength of character and face every problem that occur to be able to survive so that the desired goal is achieved. Persistence is one of the character strengths that can make someone survive any challenges and problems in achieving goals. Locus of control is identified as a trigger to increase an individual persistence. Locus of control shows self-conviction to do a success-control. Generally, the research aims to get the information regarding the relationship between locus of control and persistence of the students of SMP Negeri 16 Bandung Academic Year 2016/2017. The approach used in this study is a quantitative approach using explanatory design as the research design. Samples were taken using probability sampling methods and proportionate stratified random sampling technique to 369 students. The results of this study showed: (1) generally, students’ persistence is in a high category, (2) generally, students tend to have an internal locus of control, (3) there is a positive and significant relationship of 0,119553 between internal locus of control with the persistence of students, (4) there is negative and significant relationship of -0,119553 between external locus of control with student persistence. It means that the tendency of locus of control can determine a person's persistence or less persistence. The result of the condition of students based on this study can be considered to focus the aid to guidance and counseling services.
