Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan memahami konsep gondang Batak Toba dalam liturgi gereja HKBP (Huria Kristen Batak Potestan), menganalisis musik gondang sebagai musik gerejawi dan memahami hubungan falsafah masyarakat Batak Toba dengan musik gondang Batak Toba dalam perwujudan liturgi gereja HKBP. Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah memperkenalkan musik tradisional Batak Toba sebagai musik gerejawi yang dapat digunakan dalam beribadah. HKBP merupakan salah satu gereja suku yang ada di Indonesia yang sebagian besar menggunakan alat musik barat, bukan musik tradisional sebagai pengiring ibadah. Peneliti memandang perlu untuk mengembangkan musik gerejawi ini dengan menganalisis musik tradisional sebagai musik pengiring ibadah. Sehingga peneliti mengambil judul “Musik Gondang Batak Toba Sebagai Musik Gerejawi Dalam Perwujudan Liturgi Gereja HKBP”. Subjek penelitian adalah pendeta, penatua, seniman Batak, dan jemaat gereja HKBP. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskripsi analisis dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Peneliti memasukkan unsur musik tradisonal dengan tidak menghilangkan musik pengiring yang selalu digunakan dalam peribadatan gereja HKBP. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi masukan bahwa musik tradisional harus dikembangkan secara khusus dalam liturgi gereja HKBP Kata Kunci: Musik Gondang Batak Toba, Musik Gerejawi, Liturgi HKBP, Gereja HKBP The objectives of this research were to study the application of Batak Toba gondang music in HKBP (Huria Kristen Batak Potestan) liturgy, as one of the tribal Protestant churches in Indonesia, to analyze gondang as the ecclesiastical music, and to examine the connection between gondang to the philosophy of Batak Toba people in the realization of HKBP church liturgy. The background of the study was to introduce Batak Toba traditional music as the ecclesiastical music. Looking into the reality, mostly HKBP churches apply the western music to the liturgy rather than the traditional one. Related to the issue, the researcher concerned in developing the ecclesiastical music by analyzing the application of traditional music in liturgy. In line with this, the title of this study was “The Application of Batak Toba Gondang Music on the Realization of HKBP Church Liturgy.” This study involved the participants such as the clerks, the ruling elders, batakese artists and musicians, and HKBP Church. This study utilized the analytical description method with qualitative approach. The traditional music was applied to the liturgy without excluding the musical accompaniment that is commonly applied in the liturgy. This study was expected to be a reference in which could raise the people concerns to traditional music to be developed particularly in HKBP church liturgy.
