Abstract

Triggered by the result of several previous studies that found that teachers’ knowledge and skills in multiple-choice test construction were still limited, this study attempted to investigate the steps taken by the teachers in multiple-choice test items construction, the difficulties faced by the teachers in multiple-choice test items construction, and reveal the quality of the test items they made. 6 English teachers, 275 multiple-choice test items, and 211 students’ answer sheets were involved in this descriptive study. The findings showed that the way the teachers construct multiple-choice test item were still not optimal. Regarding the quality, there found several flaws existed in the test items signaling that more revision and improvement were needed. ; Berdasarkan hasil beberapa penelitian sebelumnya yang menemukan bahwa pengetahuan dan kemampuan guru dalam membuat test pilihan ganda masih terbatas, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi langkah-langkah yang dilakukan guru dalam membuat soal pilihan ganda, kesulitan yang dihadapi guru dalam membuat soal pilihan ganda, dan juga menganalisis kualitas soal pilihan ganda yang dibuat oleh guru. 6 orang guru Bahasa Inggris, 275 butir soal pilihan ganda, dan 211 lembar jawaban siswa dilibatkan dalam penelitian deskriptif ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa cara guru membuat soal pilihan ganda masih belum optimal. Dalam hal kualitas soal, ditemukan beberapa kesalahan dalam butir soal yang meindikasikan bahwa revisi dan perbaikan dibutuhkan.
