Abstract
Kelompok eksperimen menerapkan pembelajaran berbasisZone of Proximal Development (ZPD), sedangkan kelompok kontrol menerapkan pembelajaran tanpa berbasis Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). ;--This study aims to find out the effect of zone of proximal development (ZPD) based science learning of water cycle material to fifth grade of primary school students’ concept mastery. The method used in this study was quasi experiment with nonrandomized pretest-posttest control group design as a study design.Subjects of this study are 65 students in the fifth grade of primary school which consist of 33 students at experimental group and 32 students at control group. The instrument used is a test of concept mastery and an observation of learning implementation. The experimental group applied zone of proximal development (ZPD) based learning, while the control group applied learning without zone of proximal development (ZPD) based. The result shows that there are differences in students' concept mastery improvement which is significant between experimental group and control group that are shown at N-gain t-test result at 0.00 with average N-gain score of the experimental group at 0.8 and the control group at 0.12.So, it can be concluded that zone of proximal development (ZPD) based learning gives higher effect to improve concept mastery than a learning without Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) based in improving students' concept mastery.
