Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh hasil pengamatan di Sekolah Dasar CPD 5 di Kecamatan Sukasari Kota Bandung, pada siswa kelas V. Peneliti menemukan permasalahan ketika proses pembelajaran menggunakan teks sebagai media penyampaian informasi, yaitu kurangnya keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa. Hal ini disebabkan karena kurangnya motivasi siswa dalam membaca serta media pendukung dalam proses membaca yang dirasa kurang. Salah satu alternatif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa adalah dengan menerapkan pendekatan Whole Language dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang diadaptasi dari model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart yang terdiri dari etahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, refleksi dengan tiga siklus. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh yaitu, ketercapaian kriteria keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa dengan kriteria sangat baik adalah 24%, kriteria baik 48%, ktiteria cukup 16%, serta tidak ada nya siswa yang termasuk kedalam kriteria kurang dan perlu bimbingan. Hal tersebut berpengaruh pada Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) yaitu 70 yang dicapai siswa, pada siklus I sebesar 52%, pada siklus II sebesar 76%, dan pada siklus III mencapai 85%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan pendekatan Whole Language dalam proses pembelajaran dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa, sehingga pendekatan Whole Language ini dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa. ; The research based on observations in grade V CPD 5 primary school, in district Sukasari, Bandung. Researchers found problems when learning process using text as a medium of delivery of information, namely the lack of students’ reading comprehesion skills. This is because of the lack of motivation of students in reading and media support in the process of reading were less. One alternative to improve the skills of reading comprehension of students is by applying the Whole Language approach in the learning process. This research is a Research class action adapted from models of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart consisting of planning stages , implementation, observation,reflection with three cycles. Research results are obtained, namely the achievement of students’ reading comprehension skill criteria students with excellent criteria 24%, good criteria 48%, sufficient criteria 16%, quite kriteria and his students nothing contains the criteria less and need guidance. This effect on Minimum Completeness Criterion (KKM) i.e. 70 accomplished students, on cycle I amounting to 52%, cycle II amounted to 76%, and in cycle III reaches 85%. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the application of Whole Language approach in the process of learningcan improve the skills of reading comprehension of students, so that the Whole Language approach can be used as an alternative to improve the skills of reading comprehension of students.
