Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kurangnya kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam mata pelajaran IPS di kelas VII-E SMP Negeri 1 Cimahi. Peneliti menemukan permasalahan yang dijumpai pada siswa diantaranya pembelajaran yang tidak kondusif karena siswa sering gaduh, kurang memperhatikan guru saat menjelaskan materi, tidak tertarik dengan media yang guru berikan, dan tidak mengerjakan tugas ketika diperintahkan oleh guru. Oleh karena itu digunakan media visual gambar untuk memperbaiki proses pembelajaran IPS. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk: 1). Mendeskripsikan perencanaan penggunaan media visual gambar terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS; 2). Mengetahui Pelaksanaan media visual gambar dalam pembelajaran IPS untuk meningkatkan berpikir siswa; 3). Mengetahui kendala dan upaya dari media visual gambar dalam pembelajaran IPS; 4). Menganalisis kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS setelah diterapkannya media visual gambar. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan menggunakan model Kemmis and Taggart yang terbagi kedalam 4 tindakan. Teknik penelitian yang digunakan adalah lembar observasi, dan wawancara dengan subjek penelitian guru IPS dan siswa kelas VII E. Proses perencanaan peneliti menyusun KI/KD (2.1, 3.3 3.4, 4.3) ke dalam RPP, dalam Pelaksanaan penggunaan media visual gambar tindakan 1 mencocokan kartu pasangan, tindakan 2 diskusi tema permasalahan, tindakan 3 menganalisis gambar, dan tindakan 4 membuat amplop kreatif. Kendala yang ditemukan gambar belum menarik kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Upaya menangani masalah dengan mencari gambar yang menarik berpikir kritis siswa dan bersifat kekinian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media visual gambar berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis Siswa. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian terlihat peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam persentase kenaikan pada tindakan kedua dan keempat. Persentase dalam setiap tindakan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan dan perbaikan proses pembelajaran dikelas. Dengan hasil perolehan tersebut peneliti menyimpulkan melalui penggunaan media visual gambar berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS. Kata Kunci : Media Visual Gambar, Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis, dan Pembelajaran IPS. This research is motivated by the lack of critical thinking skills of students in social science in VII grade class E Junior High School of 1 Cimahi. Researcher found the problems encountered in students such us the conducive learning process because the students are rowdy in class, less attention when the teacher explains the material, not interested in the media that teacher gives, and they do not finish the assignment when instructed by the teacher. Therefore, the researcher uses the visual images to improve the learning process in social science subject. The purpose of this study was to: 1). Describing the plan of using the visual images to increase critical thinking skills of students in social science subject; 2). Knowing the implementation of visual images in learning social science subject to improve students' thinking; 3). Knowing the constraints and the efforts of visual image in learning social science; 4). Analyzing the critical thinking skills of students in social science subject after the implementation of the visual image. The method used in this research is the Classroom Action Research with the model from Kemmis and Taggart, divided into four steps. A research technique used is the observation sheet, and interviews with research subjects: social science teachers and students in VII grade class E. In the planning process, researcher compiled Core Competencies/Basic Competencies (2.1, 3.3 3.4, 4.3) into the Lesson Plan, the implementation of the use of visual image: action 1 matching same card, action 2 discussing theme of the problem, action 3 analyzing the image, and action 4 making the creative envelope. Problems encountered were picture does not attract students' critical thinking skills. The effort to solve the problem is by finding an interest picture to make students think critically and up to date picture. The results showed that the visual image can improve students' critical thinking skills. Based on the results from this research it can be seen that there is an increasing in students' critical thinking skills in second and fourth steps. Percentages in each action indicate an increasing and improvement of the learning process in class. By the results, the researcher concluded that by using the visual images managed to improve students' critical thinking skills in social science learning.
