Abstract

Siklus air dan siklus nitrogen salah satu materi biologi yang memiliki banyak konsep dan bersifat abstrak sehingga dapat menyebabkan beban kognitif pada siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis perbedaan beban kognitif siswa SMA antara kelas yang menggunakan multimedia interaktif (eksperimen) dan kelas dengan pembelajaran konvensional (kontrol). Penelitian ini penting dilakukan untuk menemukan strategi pembelajaran yang tepat untuk mengurangi beban kognitif siswa dengan media pembelajaran. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah Quasi Experiment dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas X MIA yang berjumlah 50 orang. Beban kognitif siswa ditentukan berdasarkan tiga komponen yaitu kemampuan menerima dan mengolah informasi yang menggambarkan ICL digunakan soal task complexity, usaha mental yang menggambarkan ECL, digunakan kuisioner subject rating scale dan hasil belajar yang menggambarkan GCL digunakan soal pilihan ganda. Besarnya beban kognitif ditentukan dari korelasi ketiga komponen beban kognitif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis uji korelasi antara ketiga komponen beban kognitif menunjukkan adanya korelasi positif yang signifikan (r= 0,520**) antara MMI dengan HB pada kelas eksperimen. Sementara pada kelas kontrol korelasi antara MMI dengan HB menunjukkan korelasi yang tidak signifikan (r = 0,322). Pada kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol ECL masih tinggi karena korelasi UM dan HB menunjukkan korelasi positif yang berarti siswa masih membutuhkan usaha diluar proses kognitif untuk mendapatkan nilai hasil belajar yang tinggi. Multimedia interaktif dapat menurunkan beban kognitif pada kelas eksperimen tetapi tidak semua komponen beban kognitif dapat diturunkan.;--- The water cycle and nitrogen cycle is one of the biological subject that has a lot of abstract concepts and thus can cause cognitive burden on students. This study was conducted to analyze the differences in the cognitive load of high school students between classes using interactive multimedia (experiment) and class with conventional learning (control). This research is important to search appropriate learning strategies to reduce the cognitive load of students with learning media. The method used in this research is quasi experiment with students of class X MIA totaling 50 people as research subject. Student’s cognitive load is determined by three components, namely information processing describes as ICL, which is measured by question with task complexity, mental effort described as ECL, which used rating scale subject questionnaire and the learning outcomes described as GCL which determined using multiple choice questions. The amount of cognitive load is determined from the correlation of the three components of cognitive load. Based on the analysis of correlation test between the three components of cognitive load, showed a significant positive correlation (r= 0,520**) between information processing with learning outcomes in the experimental class, while the correlation between information processing control class with learning outcomes showed no significant correlation (r = 0,322). The experimental class and control class ECL is still high because the correlation mental effort and learning outcomes showed positive correlation means that students still require effort beyond the cognitive processes to obtain high-value learning outcomes. Interactive multimedia can reduce the cognitive load on the experimental class but not all components of cognitive load can be reduced.
