Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan berprikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran IPS di sekolah dasar, salah satu penyebabnya yaitu peneliti melihat siswa cenderung pasif saat proses pembelajaran. Hal ini disebabkan penerapan pembelajaran IPS yang digunakan menggunakan metode konvensional. Penelitian ini ditunjukkan untuk mengetahui pelaksanaaan dan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS dengan menerapkan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPS (Think Pair Share), yaitu dalam tahap Think (berpikir), Pair (berpasangan), dan Share (berbagi). Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang mengadaptasi model Kemmis & Mc. Taggart yang terdiri dari dua siklus. Penelitian dilakukan dalam setiap siklus dengan beberapa tahapan yang terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 26 siswa kelas IV SDN C 1. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, lembar kerja siswa dan tes formatif. Setelah menerapkan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPS (Think Pair Share), diperoleh hasil penelitian kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa mengalami peningkatan pada setiap siklus, pada siklus I diperoleh kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa berada pada kategori sedang dengan persentase 67,5% dan pada siklus II mengalami peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dengan perolehan persentase 82,5% berada pada kategori tinggi. Simpulan dari penelitian ini, yaitu dengan menerapkan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPS (Think Pair Share) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS di kelas IV SDN C 1. Oleh karena itu, peneliti merekomendasikan kepada guru untuk menerapkan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPS (Think Pair Share) dalam proses pembelajaran sehingga mampu mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa.;--- This research is motivated by the low ability of students' critical thinking skill in learning social science in elementary school, one of the reason was the students tend to be passive during the learning process (according to the monitoring of researcher). This is caused by the application of conventional methods in learning social science. This study was shown to determine the implementation and the improvement of critical thinking skills of students in learning social science by applying TPS (Think Pair Share) cooperative learning, which is in phase of Think, Pairs, and Share. The method used in this research was the Classroom Action Research, which adapting the model by Kemmis & Mc.Taggart that consists of two cycles. The study was conducted in each cycle with several stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 26 students of grade IV in State Elementary School of C 1. Data were collected through observation, student worksheets and formative tests. After applying TPS (Think Pair Share) cooperative learning, the result showed that the critical thinking skill of students has increased in each cycle. In the cycle I, it was obtained that the critical thinking ability of students are in middle category with a percentage of 67.5% and the cycle II the ability students' critical thinking has increased with the acquisition of percentage of 82.5% at the high category. The conclusions of this study was by implementing TPS (Think Pair Share) cooperative learning can improve critical thinking skills of students in learning social science in grade IV in State Elementary School of C 1. Therefore, the researcher recommend to teachers to implement TPS (Think Pair Share) cooperative learning in the learning process, so it will develop the students' critical thinking skills.
