Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh perilaku yang ‘biasa’ ditemui pada anak-anak usia sekolah seperti pendiam, cemas dan penakut. Namun ketika dikaji lebih mendalam, fenomena ‘perilaku biasa’ tersebut memunculkan suatu permasalahan baru yang jarang sekali terungkap, yakni perilaku selective mutism (SM). SM belum sepopuler autisme di Indonesia karena gelaja SM serupa dengan gangguan kecemasan lain seperti pemalu akut, menarik diri atau cemas yang lebih umum dialami anak-anak. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji secara mendalam kasus SM. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah seorang siswa kelas VI SD yang didiagnosis SM. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Analisis data diolah secara deskriptif fenomenologis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kasus SM enggan berkomunikasi dengan siapapun selama berada di sekolah dan di tempat umum lainnya. Hasil analisis data teridentifikasi bahwa gelaja SM disebabkan baik oleh faktor internal (mengalami kejadian buruk di masa lalu, merasa tidak percaya diri, malu, menghindar dan selalu bersikap datar tanpa ekspresi) maupun faktor eksternal (pola asuh keluarga yang tidak tepat, kurang mendapatkan perhatian dan kurangnya interaksi secara intens antara orang tua dengan anak). Lebih lanjut SM menyebabkan pencapaian nilai akademik kurang optimal karena tidak aktif di sekolah, terasa diasingkan oleh teman-teman, kurang memiliki keterampilan fisik, kurang membentuk sikap yang sehat, tidak dapat menyesuaikan diri dengan lingkungan, serta perilaku pasif dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut akhirnya direkomendasikan kepada guru BK agar merancang layanan bimbingan konseling yang tepat bagi siswa SM, dan bagi peneliti selanjutnya hasil penelitian ini dapat dijadikan masukan atau rujukan data empirik dalam melakukan penelitian yang lebih beragam dalam metode. Kata kunci: Selective Mutism, Anak Sekolah Dasar. The background of this study is behaviour which “usually” found on children in school age such as self-contained, worried and coward. But, if it is studied depper, a new problem appears which is rare to be expressed, and it is selective mutism (SM) behaviour. In Indonesia, the term selective mutism is not as populer as autism, it is because the sympton of SM almost similar with others anxiety disorders such as prude, or self-contained which is common happened on children. The aim of this study is to examine more deeply about selective mutism phenomena. Case study method is used in this study with qualitative approach. Subject of this study is a sixth grade elementary student which is diagnosed selective mutism. Interview, observation and documentation study are used as data collection techniques. The data obtained are analyzed descriptively. The study showed that the student who got selective mutism reluctant to communicate with any anyone while in school and in othe public places. The result from data analysis showed that selective mutism sympton can be either from internal factor ( such as experienced adverse events in the past, feel insecure, embarrassed, shy and always be expressionless) or external factor ( such as family upbringing improper, lack of attention and lack of intense interaction between parents and children). Furthermore, selective mutism lead to the achievement of academic values less than optimal due to inactivity in school, feels ostracized by friends, lack the physical skills, less form a healthy attitude, cannot adjust to the environment, as well as passive behavior in dailylife. Finally, from the result of the study, it is better for BK teacher to design appropriate counseling services for selective mutism students, and for further research, the results of this study can be used as a reference input or empirical data in conducting research that is more diverse in the method.
