Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh permasalahan menulis teks eksplanasi yang dianggap sulit dan kurang menyenangkan dikalangan siswa. Selain itu, para siswa lebih tertarik untuk menulis teks yang tergolong naratif seperti puisi dan cerpen daripada teks eksplanasi. Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti mengajukan rumusan masalah sebagai berikut (1) Bagaimana kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol sebelum menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction (PBI)? (2) Bagaimana kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi kelas eksperimen sesudah menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) dan kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi kelas kontrol tanpa menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction (PBI)? (3) Apakah terdapat perbedan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol? Tujuan digunakannya model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks eksplanasi. Metode dan desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen kuasi (quasy experimental research) dengan desain dua kelompok kelas yaitu, kelas eksperimen yang mendapatkan perlakuan menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) dan kelas kontrol tanpa menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction (PBI). Dalam penelitian ini, pengolahan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan Microsoft Excel. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan siswa kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) dan siswa kelas kontrol yang tidak menggunakan model Problem Based Instruction (PBI). Nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen yang semula 70,4 meningkat menjadi 80,2. Sementara nilai rata-rata kelas kontrol yang semula 69,9 meningkat menjadi 71,9 dan masih di bawah nilai KKM, karena nilai KKM di SMA Negeri 3 Cimahi matapelajaran Bahasa Indonesia adalah 75. Dengan demikian, model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran menulis teks eksplanasi. ----------This research is motivated by the problems of writing text explanations that are considered difficult and less fun among students. In addition, students are more interested in writing narrative text classified as poetry and short stories rather than explanatory text. In this study, the researchers propose formulation of the problem as follows: (1) How is the ability to write a text explanation experimental class and control class before using the model Problem Based Instruction (PBI)? (2) How is the ability to write explanatory text after the experimental class using a model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) and the ability to write explanatory text control class without using a model Problem Based Instruction (PBI)? (3) Are there significantly different between the ability to write text explanation experimental class and control class? The purpose of the use of the model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) is to improve students' skills in writing explanatory text. Methods and designs used in this study is a quasi experimental (quasy experimental research) design with two groups of classes, namely, the experimental class who receive treatment using the model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) and grade control without using the model Problem Based Instruction (PBI). In this study, the data processing is done using Microsoft Excel. The results showed that there are significant differences between the experimental class students' ability to use the model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) and a control class that does not use a model Problem Based Instruction (PBI). The average value of the experimental class which was originally 70.4 rose to 80.2. While the average value of the original control group increased to 71.9 and 69.9 still below the KKM, because the KKM in SMAN 3 Cimahi Indonesian lesson is 75. Thus, the model Problem Based Instruction (PBI) is effectively used in learning to write explanatory text.
