Abstract

Pembelajaran klasifikasi tumbuhan masih identik dengan hapalan dan banyaknya bahasa latin sehingga mengakibatkan beban kognitif pada siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk menurunkan beban kognitif siswa SMA dalam praktikum klasifkasi tumbuhan menggunakan framing. Framing pada kegiatan praktikum dilakukan dengan memberikan bagan dikotomous. Metode penelitian quasy experimental design. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas X IPA. Beban kognitif diukur dengan melihat perbedaan kemampuan siswa dalam menerima dan mengolah informasi ,dijaring dengan task complexity worksheet ,usaha mental angket subjective rating scale berbasis skala Likert dan hasil belajar yang berupa kemampuan penalaran siswa dalam klasifikasi tumbuhan soal uraian berdasarkan indikator berfikir kompleks Marzano. Hasil analisis menunjukkan baik di kelas eksperimen maupun pada kelas kontrol hubungan antara kemampuan menerima dengan kemampuan penalaran menunjukkan korelasi yang positif, sedangkan hubungan antara usaha mental dengan kemampuan penalaran menunjukkan korelasi yang negatif. Akan tetapi, siswa pada kelas eksperimen memiliki kemampuan menerima dan mengolah informasi yang lebih tinggi(61,86) dibandingkan kelas kontrol(48,25). Sebaliknya pada kelas eksperimen nilai usaha mentalnya lebih rendah (48,85)dibandingkan kelas kontrol(56,55), hal ini menunjukkan bahwa beban kognitif siswa pada kelas eksperimen lebih rendah dibandingkan beban kognitif siswa kelas kontrol. Hasil analisis pergaya belajar siswa dengan dominansi gaya belajar kombinasi visual kinestetik ,dominan audio sedikit memiliki beban kognitif dibandingkan siswa dominansi gaya belajar visual dan kinestetik. Dengan kata lain, penggunakan framing pada kegiatan praktikum klasifikasi tumbuhan di kelas eksperimen telah dapat menurunkan beban kognitif siswa. Kata kunci: Beban kognitif, Praktikum Klasifikasi Tumbuhan, Framing Learning plant classification is still synonymous with memorizing and many Latin words causing cognitive load on students. This research is conducted to reduce the cognitive load of Senior High School students in a practice of plants classification by using framing. Framing on the practice activities is conducted by providing dichotomous chart. Research method is quasy experimental design. Research subject was students in grade 10th of Science. Cognitive load was measured by looking at differences in the students' ability to receive and process information, captured by task complexity worksheet. The mental effort through subjective rating scale questionnaire based on Likert scale. Learning outcomes in the form of reasoning skills of the student in essay questions of plants classification based on indicator of Marzano complex thinking. The analysis result showed, both in experiment and control class, relationship between ability to accept with reasoning skills shows a positive correlation, while the relationship between mental effort with reasoning skills shows a negative correlation. However, students in experiment class have ability to receive and process information higher (61.86) than the control class (48.25). Otherwise in experimental class the mental effort lower (48.85) than control class (56.55), this indicates that cognitive load of students in the experimental class lower than the cognitive load of students in control class. Analysis result per student's learning style that combination visual and kinesthetic & audio learning style is better compared to visual and kinesthetic. In other words, the use of framing in practice activities of plants classification in the experiment class can reduce the cognitive load of students.
