Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya penguasaan konsep dalam proses belajar mengajar yang akan mempengaruhi cara-cara memecahkan masalah. Penguasaan konsep yang baik dapat diwujudkan dengan membangun para siswa menjadi pemecah masalah yang baik. Untuk menghasilkan siswa yang memiliki kompetensi dalam pemecahan masalah, diperlukan model pembelajaran problem solving. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh informasi mengenai keterlaksanaan pembelajaran sub materi sifat asam, basa dan netral pada larutan dengan menggunakan model problem solving, penguasaan konsep siswa kelas eksperimen dibandingkan kelas kontrol, serta penguasaan konsep siswa kelas eksperimen berdasarkan jenjang kognitif. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental semu (quasi-experimental), dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 22 orang kelas kontrol dan 22 orang kelas eksperimen. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan melalui tes tulis berupa soal uraian dan lembar observasi keterlaksanaan model problem solving tipe Mothes. Peningkatan penguasaan konsep siswa diukur berdasarkan nilai gain pada kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Didapat nilai gain untuk kelas kontrol sebesar 31,4% dan kelas eksperimen sebesar 57,7%. Penguasaan konsep siswa kelas eksperimen pada setiap jenjang kognitif yaitu jenjang memahami (C2) termasuk kriteria sangat baik dengan nilai rata-rata sebesar 89,4%, jenjang menerapkan (C3) dan jenjang menganalisis (C4) keduanya termasuk kriteria baik dengan nilai rata-rata berturut-turut sebesar 61,4% dan 73,5%. The background of this research was the important of concept mastery learning process that will influence the student’s manner to solving their problems. Well concept mastery can be done by building the student to be a good problem solver. To deliver a good problem solver, we need a problem solving learning model. This study aimed at gaining the information about feasibility of learning acid, base, and neutral characteristic of aqueous solution using problem solving learning model, comparing concept mastery of students on experiment class to students on control class and also gaining the information about student’s concept mastery on experiment class based on cognitive level. Research method that used in this study was quasi-experimental with amount of subject was 22 students on experimental class and 22 students on control class. The data was collected by paper-and-pencil test with essay and observation paper of feasibility problem solving learning model by Mothes. The increase of student’s concept mastery measured by gain on experiment class and control class. The result was gain on experiment class is higher than that on control class. Gain for experiment class was 57,7% and for control class was 31,4%. Another result was the position of student’s concept mastery on cognitive level: 89,4% for understanding (C2) counted as a “very good” category, 61,4% for application (C3) counted as a “good” category, and 73,5% for analyzing (C4) counted as a “good” category.
