Pemahaman konsep yang baik akan berdampak baik juga kepada pemahaman siswa terutama dalam menyelesaikan berbagai masalah yang ada pada matematik, termasuk masalah kemampuan pemahaman konsep dan memvisualisasikan matematik geometri bangun datar. Banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep geometri bangun datar serta siswa kesulitan memvisualisasikan bentuk. Kondisi ini mengindikasikan terdapat hambatan belajar yang dialami oleh siswa dalam memahami dan menyelesaikan masalah matematik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh metode Montessori terhadap pemahaman konsep dan visualisasi spasial matematika siswa kelas III pada materi bangun datar. Desain yang digunakan adalah kuasi-eksperimen pretest–posttest dengan dua kelompok yaitu metode Montessori dan metode ekspositori yang terdapat di dua SD di Kecamatan Sepatan Timur, Kabupaten Tangerang. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas III yang berjumlah 35 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen tes, non tes, wawancara guru, observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil dari penelitian kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematik menunjukkan rata-rata pretest sebesar 43,91 dan hasil postetst sebesar 86,66. Terjadi peningkatan sebesar 42,74, dengan N-Gain skor sebesar 0,76 76,24%, termasuk dalam kategori tinggi. Sedangkan pada visualisasi spasial dari 43,91 terjadi peningkatan ke 97,74 atau jika di persentasekan sebesar 107,33%. Pada sikap belajar siswa meningkat dari 2,90 menjadi 3,25 pada post-test, dengan kategori "Baik" dan peningkatan sebesar 12,1% atau 0,35 poin. Pada hambatan siswa mengalami kesulitan membedakan bentuk geometri yang mirip, kesulitan memahami karakterisitik bangun datar, siswa kurang percaya diri. A good understanding of concepts will also positively impact students' comprehension, especially in solving various problems in mathematics, including the ability to understand concepts and visualize flat geometry shapes. Many students experience difficulties in understanding flat geometry concepts and in visualizing shapes. This condition indicates that there are learning obstacles faced by students in understanding and solving mathematical problems. This study aims to analyse the effect of the Montessori method on students' conceptual understanding and spatial visualization in third grade mathematics on flat shape materials. The design used is a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest with two groups, namely the Montessori method and the expository method, at two primary schools in Sepatan Timur District, Tangerang Regency. The participants in this study were third-grade students totaling 35 students. Data were collected using test and non-test instruments, teacher interviews, observations, and document studies. The results of the study on students' understanding of mathematical concepts showed an average pre-test score of 43.91 and a post-test score of 86.66. This represents an improvement of 42.74, with an N-Gain score of 0.76 or 76.24%, which is classified as high. Meanwhile, in spatial visualization, scores increased from 43.91 to 97.74, or, when expressed as a percentage, 107.33%. Students' learning attitudes improved from 2.90 to 3.25 in the post-test, categorised as 'Good,' with an increase of 12.1% or 0.35 points. Student challenges included difficulty distinguishing similar geometric shapes, difficulty understanding the characteristics of plane figures, and low self-confidence.
