Abstract
Self-injury is a behavior of deliberately harming oneself without suicidal intent, often arising from difficulties in regulating emotions. This phenomenon is common among adolescents, including junior high school students, as a way of releasing negative feelings. This study aims to explain the self-control of individuals engaging in self-injury among junior high school students. A qualitative case study approach was applied, involving three students with self-injury experiences. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed qualitatively using triangulation. The findings reveal differences in self-control across behavioral, cognitive, and decision-making aspects. Some participants struggled to resist self-harm impulses, while others began to adopt adaptive strategies such as listening to music or confiding in peers. Both internal factors (emotions, cognition, personality) and external factors (family, peers, school environment) significantly influence self-control. These results provide valuable insights for teachers and counselors in preventing and addressing self-injury.
