S1 thesis, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.

    Abstract

Elective subject selection in senior high schools is essential for students’ academic success and career preparation, yet the placement process is often conducted without an adequate empirical basis. This study investigates the predictive validity of the Advanced Progressive Matrices (APM), Intelligenz Struktur Test (IST), Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS), and Inventori Minat Pekerjaan (IMP) on students’ Advanced Mathematics grades, and formulates a predictive model to support elective subject determination. Using a quantitative approach with a correlational predicting design, the research involved high school students data from several cities and regencies in West Java. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that APM scores (intelligence quotient) and certain IST subtests (Merkaufgaben, Rechnaufgaben, Zahlenreihen) significantly predicted higher Advanced Mathematics grades. Conversely, several EPPS dimensions (Exhibition, Autonomy, Affiliation) and IMP scales (Outdoor, Mechanical) had significant negative effects. The study produced predictive formulas for each semester and average performance, offering a data-based framework for student placement and subject recommendation. Findings emphasize the need for integrating psychological assessment into guidance and counseling to improve potential mapping and informed educational decision making.
