Abstract
The youngest child is often labeled as an individual who lacks independence because they are considered too dependent on others, especially within the family environment. This stereotype impacts their self-perception and self-confidence in social contexts, including at school. The study aims to describe behavioral independence among junior high school students who are youngest children, focusing on decision-making abilities and resilience to others' influence. The research method employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection techniques were conducted through interviews and observations of three eighth-grade students who are youngest children at SMP Negeri 11 Bandung. The research results indicate that the three participants began to show behavioral independence, particularly in decision-making and the ability to distinguish between advice and social pressure. Their levels of self-confidence and assertiveness still vary. Some participants also showed potential for further development toward independence if given trust and space to explore decisions independently. The study is expected to serve as a reference for the development of guidance and counseling in schools to support the growth of behavioral independence among students during adolescence.
