    Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the efforts made by mothers in developing self- help skills in children aged 5–6 years. Self-help skills, which include eating, dressing, self-care, and simple household tasks, serve as an essential foundation for children’s independence and responsibility. The study focuses on the concrete efforts made by parents, particularly mothers, as well as the challenges and solutions encountered in the process. This qualitative research employed a case study approach to examine how mothers foster self-help skills within the family setting. The findings reveal that the development of self-help skills covers eating, dressing, self-care, simple household activities, toileting, and safety awareness. Parents’ efforts are carried out through providing opportunities, emotional support, gradual guidance, and modeling of behavior. Challenges include motor difficulties, incomplete skill acquisition, and children’s curiosity about risky situations. Solutions applied by parents involve consistent routines, positive motivation, environmental stimulation, and practical learning experiences both at home and outside the home.
