    Abstract

It is necessary to further understand and explore the continuity of participants’ involvement in community-based training programs, particularly in the context of non-formal education. This research stems from the phenomenon of declining consistency in participant attendance in the volunteer guide training program at Klab Edukator Sahabat Museum Konperensi Asia Afrika (SMKAA), which poses a challenge in maintaining the sustainability of community activities. The purpose of this study is to examine the management’s understanding of retention issues, identify the factors causing low continuity of participation, describe the efforts made, understand participants’ perspectives on management strategies, and explore obstacles and development plans for the training program. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method, using in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings show that the management is aware of the importance of participant retention, but the evaluation system remains basic and unstructured. Low continuity of participation is influenced by limited competence and weak social bonds, despite participants having strong initial motivation. Retention efforts have been carried out through interactive practices, and online communication, but these remain technical, one-way, and lack consistent mentoring and formal appreciation. Participants view the support provided by management as fairly open and acknowledge that training improves their skills, but follow-up on feedback is not concrete, mentoring is limited, and social bonds remain weak. The main challenges lie in academic and social integration. This study concludes that the continuity of participation at SMKAA is hindered because retention strategies are still basic. Strengthening adaptive methods, providing personal support, and developing social relations are needed to ensure sustainable retention in community-based non-formal education
