Abstract

Fenomena kekerasan dan perilaku negatif pada kalangan mahasiswa seperti perundungan, pemerasan hingga tindakan kriminal menunjukkan adanya indikasi lack of empathy. Perilaku individualis dan apatis yang semakin meningkat menjadi perhatian serius karena dapat melunturkan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan dan kepedulian. Maka, empati menjadi hal yang penting dalam diri setiap mahasiswa khususnya mahasiswa bimbingan dan konseling demi terciptanya konseling yang efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran umum empati, gambaran empati berdasarkan aspek, serta rancangan layanan bimbingan pribadi sosial untuk mengembangkan empati. Metode yang digunakan ialah deskriptif menggunakan pengumpulan data Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) dari Mark Herbert Ainswort Davis (1983) yang dimodifikasi secara konstruk dan bahasa dari Maulani (2022). Populasi penelitian ialah mahasiswa aktif Program Studi Bimbingan dan Konseling Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia dengan sampel penelitian sebanyak 83 mahasiswa melalui teknik non-probability sample dengan pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) profil empati mahasiswa aktif Program Studi Bimbingan dan Konseling Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia secara umum berada pada kategori Empathy dengan proporsi 98,8%; (2) layanan bimbingan pribadi dan sosial dikembangkan dengan komponen terdiri dari rasional; deskripsi kebutuhan; dan action plan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi rekomendasi untuk pengembangan layanan bimbingan pribadi sosial di setting Perguruan Tinggi bagi dewasa awal yang memiliki kategori empathy dan lack of empathy. The rising phenomena of violence and negative behaviors among university students such as bullying, extortion, and criminal acts indicate a significant lack of empathy. The increasing individualistic and apathetic behaviors are a serious concern as they can erode humanistic values and a sense of care. Therefore, empathy is crucial for every student especially those in Guidance and Counseling programs to foster effective counseling. This study aims to provide a general overview of empathy, describe empathy based on its aspects, and develop a social-personal guidance service plan to cultivate empathy. The research employs a descriptive method using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI) developed by Mark Herbert Ainsworth Davis (1983) which was adapted in both its construct and language by Maulani (2022). The study population consisted of active students from the Guidance and Counseling program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia with a sample of 83 students selected through a non-probability sampling technique specifically purposive sampling. The research findings indicate that (1) the general empathy profile of active students in the Guidance and Counseling program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia falls into the "Empathy" category, with a proportion of 98.8%; and (2) the social-personal guidance service plan was developed with components including a rationale, a description of needs, and an action plan. Based on these findings, this study serves as a recommendation for developing social-personal guidance services in higher education (university) settings for young adults who fall into both the "empathy" and "lack of empathy" categories.
