    Abstract

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara self-confidence dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis pada siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar. Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah rendahnya kemampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal matematika berbentuk pemecahan masalah. Self-confidence atau kepercayaan diri diyakini menjadi salah satu faktor psikologis yang memengaruhi kemampuan siswa dalam memahami, merencanakan, melaksanakan, dan memeriksa kembali penyelesaian soal matematis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian korelasional. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi angket self-confidence sebanyak 32 item pernyataan yang disusun berdasarkan lima indikator menurut Lauster, serta tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah sebanyak 10 butir soal berbentuk cerita pada materi penjumlahan dan pengurangan bilangan cacah. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 23 siswa kelas IV di salah satu sekolah dasar di Kota Bandung. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara self-confidence dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, dengan nilai koefisien korelasi (r) sebesar 0,742 dan signifikansi p < 0,001, yang termasuk dalam kategori hubungan kuat. Selain itu, nilai koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 0,550 menunjukkan bahwa self-confidence memberikan kontribusi sebesar 55% terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah, sedangkan sisanya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain. Berdasarkan temuan ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa self-confidence berperan penting dalam mendukung keberhasilan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika secara efektif.   This study aims to examine the relationship between self-confidence and mathematical problem-solving ability among fourth-grade elementary school students. The background of this research is the low level of students' ability to solve mathematical problems, particularly those in the form of problem-solving tasks. Self-confidence is believed to be one of the psychological factors that influence students’ abilities to understand problems, plan solutions, carry out procedures, and review their results. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational study design. The instruments used included a self-confidence questionnaire consisting of 32 statement items developed based on five indicators proposed by Lauster, as well as a problem-solving test containing 10 story-based questions focused on addition and subtraction of whole numbers. The research sample consisted of 23 fourth-grade students from an elementary school in Bandung. The results of data analysis showed a significant relationship between self-confidence and mathematical problem-solving ability, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.742 and significance level p < 0.001, indicating a strong correlation. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.550, meaning that self-confidence contributes 55% to students’ mathematical problem-solving ability, while the remaining 45% is influenced by other factors. These findings suggest that self-confidence plays an important role in supporting students’ success in solving mathematical problems effectively.
