    Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of financial literacy as a 21st-century life skill, while field observations indicate that many elementary school students still struggle to understand how to manage money appropriately. Furthermore, financial literacy instruction at the elementary level has not yet received sufficient attention, and the availability of learning media suited to students’ developmental characteristics remains limited. This research aims to develop the Financial Playbox learning medium to enhance the financial literacy of Phase B elementary school students. The study employed a Design and Development (D&D) method, which consisted of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects included fourth-grade students, classroom teachers, content experts, and media experts. Data were collected through expert validation questionnaires and pretest–posttest assessments. The Financial Playbox serves as a medium that facilitates financial literacy, covering topics such as the functions of money and its management, differentiating needs from wants, setting spending priorities, understanding spending influences, anticipating the impact of unexpected events, and prioritizing sharing. The components of this medium include user guides, cards, worksheets, assembly media, reading materials, and replica money. The results of media validation indicated that the Financial Playbox falls into the “highly feasible” category. Effectiveness testing using the N-Gain formula showed that students’ financial literacy improved to a “moderate” category. The Financial Playbox positively impacts students’ understanding of financial literacy, including money management skills. It is concluded that the Financial Playbox is effective as a learning medium to improve the financial literacy of Phase B elementary school students.
