Abstract
This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the Argument Driven Inquiry (ADI) model to improving students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills in heat topic. The research method in this study uses a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. The study population was grade XI students at a private high school in Bandung Regency, with a research sample of 56 students determined through a convenient sampling technique. The instruments used were 14 cognitive ability test questions and 8 critical thinking skill test questions. The research data were then analyzed by calculating N-Gain, non-parametric statistical tests, and calculating effect size. The results showed that the application of the ADI model showed an increase in students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills based on the average N-Gain calculation of 0.65 and 0.55 with a moderate category for both. The increase in cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills in classes using the ADI model showed a higher increase based on the average N-Gain compared to classes not using the ADI model. Based on the results of non-parametric statistical tests, it shows that the ADI model has proven effective in improving students' cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills.
