Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model writing workshop terhadap fluency writing in English siswa kelas empat sekolah dasar, serta membandingkan pengaruh model writing workshop dengan model guided writing. Fokus kajian penelitian ini adalah kemampuan menulis lancar (fluency writing), mengingat siswa sekolah dasar sering kali menuliskan kosakata bahasa Inggris berdasarkan apa yang mereka dengar atau ucapkan, yang menyebabkan rendahnya akurasi dalam menulis lancar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain the matching pre-test post-test control group yang melibatkan dua kelompok siswa, yaitu kelompok eksperimen yang menerapkan model writing workshop dan kelompok kontrol yang menerapkan model guided writing. Data diperoleh melalui kegiatan pre-test dan post-test. Hasil uji t berpasangan (paired samples t test) terhadap nilai pre-test dan post-test menunjukan bahwa penerapan model writing workshop ini memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap fluency writing in English siswa kelas empat, Rata-rata skor meningkat sebesar 35,84 poin, Sementara itu, kelas kontrol mengalami peningkatan rata-rata sebesar 12,10 poin. Selain itu, hasil independent samples t-test menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua kelompok setelah perlakuan, dengan nilai t = 4,886 dan Sig. (2-tailed) = 0,000 (p < 0,05), yang menunjukkan bahwa model Writing workshop lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan model Guided writing dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis. Temuan ini memberikan implikasi bahwa, model pembelajaran ini dapat dijadikan alternatif baru dalam pembelajaran menulis bahasa inggris sebagai model yang efektif bagi siswa sekolah dasar. Dengan hal ini, model pembelajaran writing workshop dapat dipertimbangkan sebagai salah satu strategi pembelajaran dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis lancar bahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah dasar. ----------- This study aims to determine the effect of the writing workshop model on the English writing fluency of fourth-grade elementary school students, as well as to compare its effect with that of the guided writing model. The focus of this research is on writing fluency, as elementary students often write English vocabulary based on how they hear or pronounce the words, leading to low accuracy in fluent writing. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a matching pre-test and post-test control design, involving two groups of students: an experimental group that received the writing workshop model and a control group that used the guided writing model. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test activities.The results of the paired samples t-test showed that the implementation of the writing workshop model had a significant effect on students’ English writing fluency, with an average score increase of 35.84 points. Meanwhile, the control group experienced an average improvement of 12.10 points. Additionally, the results of the independent samples t-test revealed a significant difference between the two groups after treatment, with a t-value of 4.886 and a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the writing workshop model is more effective than the guided writing model in improving students’ writing skills.These findings imply that the writing workshop model can be considered a viable alternative teaching strategy for English writing instruction at the elementary school level, particularly in improving students’ writing fluency.
