Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of the collaborative problem-solving learning model with group role division on training cognitive and social skills and improving students' understanding of the concept of mechanical wave characteristics. This study uses a mixed methods approach. The participants in this study were one experimental class and one control class. The research instruments included a concept comprehension test, recordings of student conversations, and group role observation sheets. The data were analyzed using N-gain, hypothesis testing, effect size, and conversation transcripts and descriptive analysis. The results showed that the experimental class had a greater increase in concept comprehension than the control class. The results of the conversation transcript analysis also showed that the experimental class had better cognitive and social skills than the control class. Additionally, role distribution in the experimental class was clear and equitable. These findings indicate that the applied learning model not only supports physics concept understanding but also develops cognitive and social skills.
