    Abstract

    English Basic vocabulary (kosakata dasar Bahasa Inggris) merupakan fondasi penting dalam keterampilan berbahasa, sementara itu media pembelajaran yang interaktif dan memotivasi menjadi kunci untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata tersebut. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya penguasaan kosakata siswa sekolah dasar yang disebabkan oleh kurangnya penggunaan media pembelajaran yang menarik, meskipun penguasaan kosakata berperan penting dalam kemampuan komunikasi dan literasi bahasa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dan perbedaan penggunaan media Wordwall berbasis gamifikasi dan tanpa gamifiikasi terhadap peningkatan English Basic vocabulary siswa sekolah dasar. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi-eksperimen dengan desain Matching-Only Pre-test-Post-test Control Group Design, melibatkan dua kelas IV SD di Kecamatan Kiaracondong, Kota Bandung. Rata-rata nilai Pre-test dan Post-test kelas eksperimen adalah 52,33 dan 81,99, meningkat 29,66 poin. Rata-rata nilai Pre-test dan Post-test kelas kontrol adalah 51,67 dan 68,05, meningkat 16,38 poin. Hasil uji Mann-Whitney U menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antara kedua kelompok (p = 0,009), dengan peningkatan tertinggi pada indikator melengkapi kalimat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media Wordwall berbasis gamifikasi berpengaruh signifikan dalam meningkatkan penguasaan English Basic vocabulary siswa sekolah dasar dibandingkan dengan media Wordwall tanpa gamifikasi. -------- English Basic vocabulary serves as a fundamental component in language proficiency, while interactive and motivating instructional media are essential to enhance vocabulary acquisition. This study was motivated by the low English vocabulary mastery among elementary school students, primarily due to the limited use of engaging learning media, despite vocabulary’s critical role in communication and language literacy. The research aimed to examine the effect and difference between the use of gamification-based and non-gamification Wordwall instructional media on improving students’ English Basic vocabulary. Employing a quasi-experimental method with a Matching-Only Pre-test–Post-test Control Group Design, the study involved two fourth-grade classes from an elementary school in Kiaracondong District, Bandung City. The experimental group’s mean Pre-test and Post-test scores increased from 52.33 to 81.99 (a gain of 29.66 points), while the control group’s scores increased from 51.67 to 68.05 (a gain of 16.38 points). The Mann–Whitney U test revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.009), with the highest improvement observed in the sentence completion indicator. The findings indicate that gamification-based Wordwall instructional media significantly improve elementary school students’ English Basic vocabulary compared to non-gamification Wordwall media.
