Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan kubus karakter dan video animasi dengan model Discovery Learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS) siswa sekolah dasar pada materi volume kubus dan balok. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Non-Equivalent Control-Group Design yang melibatkan siswa kelas V sebagai sampel. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS) yang mencakup aspek C4 (analisis), C5 (evaluasi), dan C6 (kreasi), yang telah divalidasi dan diuji reliabilitasnya. Analisis data dilakukan melalui analisis deskriptif, uji normalitas, dan uji Mann-Whitney untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil antar kelompok yang menggunakan nilai pretest dan nilai N-Gain. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada aspek C4 (analisis) dan C5 (evaluasi) tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan, sedangkan pada aspek C6 (kreasi) terdapat perbedaan signifikan. Tingkat ketercapaian HOTS siswa di kelas eksperimen secara umum berada pada kategori tinggi hingga sangat tinggi. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan kubus karakter dalam model Discovery Learning efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa, terutama pada aspek kreasi. Rekomendasi penelitian ditujukan untuk lebih memanfaatkan media konkret seperti kubus karakter dalam pembelajaran matematika, atau bisa dipadukan dengan media pembelajaran lainnya seperti video animasi dan slide show. ---------- This study aims to investigate the effect of using character cubes and animated videos with the Discovery Learning model on elementary school students’ higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in the topic of cube and cuboid volume. The research employed a quasi-experimental method with a Non-Equivalent Control-Group Design, involving fifth-grade students as the sample. The research instrument was a HOTS test covering C4 (analysis), C5 (evaluation), and C6 (creation), which had been validated and tested for reliability. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, normality test, and the Mann-Whitney test to examine differences between groups by utilizing Pretest scores and N-Gain values. The results revealed that there were no significant differences in C4 (analysis) and C5 (evaluation), whereas a significant difference was found in C6 (creation). The level of HOTS achievement among students in the experimental class was generally in the high to very high category. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the use of character cubes within the Discovery Learning model is effective in enhancing students’ higher-order thinking skills, particularly in the aspect of creation. The study recommends greater utilization of concrete media such as character cubes in mathematics learning, which can also be combined with other learning media such as animated videos and slideshows.
