Abstract
Ketika menyelesaikan soal-soal aljabar, siswa masih mengalami berbagai kesalahan. Numeracy is the ability to think mathematically in formulating, using, and applying basic concepts and mathematical processes in everyday life. Algebra is one of the subjects that requires strong numeracy skills. While working on algebra problems, students still commit various errors. Students’ errors are identified based on Newman’s Theory, namely reading error, comprehension error, transformation error, process skill error, and encoding error. One factor that may influence an individual's numeracy is Adversity Quotient (AQ. This study aims to describe students’ numeracy and errors in solving algebra is problems based on of AQ, which is categorized into three types: quitter, camper, and climber). This research employs a case study method with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were 33 eighth-grade students at a junior high school in Bandung. The instruments used included an algebra-based numeracy test, an AQ questionnaire, and in-depth interviews. The results indicate that students with the climber-type AQ achieved the highest numeracy performance and the lowest frequency of errors, while students with the quitter-type AQ demonstrated the lowest numeracy performance and the most errors across nearly all Newman stages. Students with the camper-type AQ were positioned between these two groups in terms of both achievement and types of errors. The most dominant error patterns occurred at the transformation error and process skill error stages, particularly among students with low AQ.
