Abstract
Penelitian ini berkenaan dengan masalah membaca yaitu membaca lanjut pada anak tunarungu. Kemampuan anak tunarungu dalam hal membaca pada dasarnya memiliki kemampuan yang cukup baik, akan tetapi mereka mengalami kesulitan untuk memahami isi bacaan, kesulitan anak tunarungu dalam memahami isi bacaan sering kali terjadi karena perbendaharaan kata yang kurang baik sehingga mereka sulit untuk memhami makna kata oleh karena itu ketika anak tunarungu diminta untuk mengutarakan isi bacaan seringkali menunjukan kekeliruan bahkan tidak dapat menjelaskan jika diminta menjelaskan atas percakapan yang diajukan terhadap isi bacaan tersebut. Berdasarkan pada masalah tersebut, penelitian ini bermaksud untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami isi bacaan melalui media gambar berseri. Asumsi ini didasarkan pada kondisi anak tunarungu yang bersifat visual, sehingga lebih dimungkinkan untuk dapat memahami isi teks bacaan jika diawali dengan naskah kriteria yang divisualiasasikan terlebih dahulu. Untuk melihat apakah media gambar berseri dapat tidaknya memahami membaca isi bacaan. Penelitian melakukan analisis melalui eksperimen dengan pendekatan one group pretes dan postes desain. One group pretes dan postes desain terhadap siswa tunarungu yang duduk di kelas 3, 4, 5, dan 6 SDLB.Berdasarkan hasil data diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa media gambar berseri ternyata dapat meningkatkan kemampuan anak tunarungu dalam memahami isi teks bacaan yang dipelajarinya. Hal ini terbukti dari perbedaan antara hasil pretes dan postes yang ditunjukan hasil kerja mereka.Berkenan dengan hasil penelitian yang diperoleh maka peneliti menyarankan kepada guru untuk menggunakan media gambar berseri dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman. Bagi peneliti lanjut dapat menjadi referensi di dalam mengembangkan penelitian yang terkait dengan masalah membaca pemahaman anak tunarungu, baik dalam kontek maupun subjek yang diteliti. This research is about the problem of reading which is reading information on deaf children. The ability of deaf children in reading basically has a good skill, but they have difficulties to understand the content of the reading. The difficulties of deaf children in understanding the content of the reading are often occur, cause words mastery is not good, so they are hard to understand the meaning of the word. Therefore, when the deaf children were required to explain the content of the reading, it often showed the confusion even they cannot explain if asked to explain the question posed to the reading. Based on the problem above, this research aims to improve the ability to understand the content of reading through series pictures media. This assumption is based on the condition of deaf children that is visually, so that it possible to be able to understand the content of text reading if begins with the script of story that is visualized beforehand. To see whether or not the series pictures media can improve the ability of understanding the content of the reading, the writer used one group pretest and posttest design as the subject of the research. Pretest and posttest is designed to the deaf children in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grade. Based on the results of the data analysis obtained the conclusion that series pictures media turn out can improve the ability of deaf children in understanding the content of the text reading that they had learned. This is evident from the difference between the results of pretest and posttest indicated from their learning outcomes. Based on the results of the research obtained that the writer suggests to teachers especially in the school that the writer investigate to use the series pictures media in improving reading comprehension. Then the paper can be the reference in developing the research related to the problem of reading comprehension of deaf children either in the content or subject of the investigation.
