Abstract
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh temuan permasalahan di lapangan yang mengindikasikan kemampuan siswa kelas IV SD Laboratorium UPI yang masih terbatas dalam penguasaan kosakata (vocabulary) dan keterampilan menulis (writing) dalam bahasa Inggris, khususnya dalam konteks pembelajaran tematik. Observasi menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas menulis siswa terbatas pada latihan soal dan ujian, serta kurangnya keterlibatan dalam kegiatan yang bermakna dan kreatif. Siswa juga menunjukkan minat tinggi terhadap aktivitas visual seperti menggambar dan mewarnai. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan model pembelajaran yang mampu mengintegrasikan keterampilan menulis dengan kreativitas visual siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) memperoleh gambaran proses pembelajaran RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) terhadap pemerolehan vocabulary dan keterampilan writing poster, (2) memperoleh gambaran hasil belajar siswa dalam pemerolehan vocabulary dan keterampilan writing poster. Metode yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan dua siklus, yang setiap siklus terdiri atas tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Tema yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran adalah “Help Our Ocean” dan “Sports”. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) proses kegiatan pembelajaran menggunakan model RADEC terhadap pemerolehan vocabulary dan keterampilan writing poster siswa dilaksanakan secara sistematis dan kontesktual serta berusaha mengatasi kesulitan yang ditemui di lapangan mulai dari tahap read hingga tahap create. (2) hasil belajar siswa dalam pemerolehan vocabulary meningkat rata-rata nilainya dari 74,67 pada siklus I menjadi 86,50 pada siklus II. Sedangkan nilai rata-rata kemampuan writing poster meningkat dari 70,19 menjadi 89,74. Dengan demikian model pembelajaran RADEC dapat meningkatkan pemerolehan vocabulary dan kemampuan writing siswa kelas IV SD. Implikasi penelitian ini adalah model pembelajaran RADEC memudahkan siswa untuk meningkatkan pemerolehan vocabulary dan kemampuan writing secara nyata sesuai dengan produk tulisan yang ada di sekitar siswa. Kata Kunci: Model RADEC, vocabulary, writing, poster, sekolah dasar This study was motivated by field findings indicating that fourth-grade students at UPI Laboratory Elementary School still had limited mastery of English vocabulary and writing skills, particularly in the context of thematic learning. Observations revealed that students’ writing activities were mostly confined to exercises and examinations, with little engagement in meaningful and creative tasks. At the same time, students demonstrated strong interest in visual activities such as drawing and coloring. Therefore, a learning model that integrates writing skills with students’ visual creativity is required. The objectives of this study were (1) to describe the learning process using the RADEC model (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) in relation to vocabulary acquisition and poster writing skills, and (2) to examine the learning outcomes of students in acquiring vocabulary and writing posters. This research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The learning themes used were “Help Our Ocean” and “Sports.” The findings showed that (1) the learning process using the RADEC model was carried out systematically and contextually, addressing challenges encountered in the classroom from the Read stage through the Create stage, and (2) students’ vocabulary acquisition scores improved from an average of 74.67 in cycle I to 86.50 in cycle II. Meanwhile, their poster writing scores increased from an average of 70.19 to 89.74. These results indicate that the RADEC model effectively enhances vocabulary acquisition and writing skills among fourth-grade elementary students.
