    Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematical procedural understanding ability of Phase B elementary school students, especially in solving multiplication operations. Students still have difficulty in understanding systematic steps, choosing the right strategy, and applying calculation procedures effectively. Learning that tends to be rote and the lack of concrete and interactive approaches are the main inhibiting factors. One solution that can be applied is the GASING (Easy, Fun, and Enjoyable) method which is designed to simplify mathematical concepts and improve student understanding gradually through concrete, abstract, and storytelling stages. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the GASING method on improving the ability of mathematical procedural understanding in the multiplication material of Phase B elementary school students. This research used quantitative method with pre-experimental design in the form of one-group pre-test-post-test. The research sample consisted of 24 fourth grade students in one of the elementary schools in Bandung Regency. Research instruments in the form of pre-test and post-test tests were used to measure changes in students' procedural skills. The results showed a significant increase in the average value of the post-test compared to the pre-test. This is reinforced by the results of the Wilcoxon test which produces a significance value of 0.001 (<0.05), which means that there is a significant effectiveness of using the GASING method on improving students' mathematical procedural understanding skills. Thus, the GASING method can be an alternative learning that is feasible to apply in learning mathematics, especially in multiplication material. The researcher suggested that teachers and further researchers continue to develop innovative learning methods based on concrete and systematic approaches in order to achieve optimal learning objectives.
