Abstract
Students’ social behavior is one of the crucial factors in the success of the learning process, especially in Physical Education, which emphasizes social interaction. This study aims to detect early signs of students’ social behavior problems in Physical Education using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The subjects were elementary school students, with a sample of 78 selected through stratified random sampling. The analysis of the student-version SDQ showed that behavior problems in Phase A were dominated by emotional symptoms (57.1%), in Phase B by peer problems (70.8%), and in Phase C by conduct problems (53.8%). Among female students, emotional symptoms were highest (59%), while among males, conduct problems were most prominent (56.4%). Overall, peer problems were the most reported issue (55.4%). The teacher-version SDQ results indicated that in Phase A, emotional symptoms were highest (64.3%), in Phase B and C conduct problems dominated (58.3% and 46.2%, respectively), with emotional symptoms highest among females (61.5%) and conduct problems among males (69.2%), and overall conduct problems being the highest (51.3%). These results are based on the aspects with the highest abnormal levels. Suitability between student and teacher perspectives varied: emotional symptoms 51.3%, conduct problems 52.6%, hyperactivity 58.9%, peer problems 32.1%, prosocial behavior 33.3%, and total difficulties 39.7%. The findings suggest the existence of social behavior problems from both student and teacher perspectives. It is recommended that PJOK teachers use these findings as an indication of behavioral issues during PJOK lessons in order to plan appropriate interventions.
