Abstract
Kemampuan membaca permulaan merupakan keterampilan dasar yang sangat penting bagi peserta didik, termasuk peserta didik tunarungu. Membaca adalah keterampilan yang kompkes karena melibatkan kemampuan pemahaman bahasa dan bunyi simbol bahasa, terlebih bagi peserta didik tunarungu. Akibat terbatasnya bahasa lisan dan sedikit pengalaman mendengar yang dialami, sehingga mempengaruhi kemampuan bahasanya. Oleh karenanya, peserta didik tunarungu membutuhkan metode dan media pembelajaran yang dapat memenuhi pemahaman bahasa lisan dan tulis dalam pembelajaran membaca. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode Maternal Reflektif dengan media Movable Alphabet terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan peserta didik tunarungu. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi eksperimen desain pretest-posttest pada enam peserta didik tunarungu kelas II SDLB. Hasil penelitian menjukkan metode Maternal Reflektif dengan media Movable Alphabet dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan peserta didik tunarungu secara signifikan. Pengaruh tersebut terilihat dari nilai Asymp. Sig. sebesar 0,027 yang lebih kecil dari 0,05. Uji Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan antara nilai pretest dan posttest. Peningkatan ini menunjukkan bahwa integrasi pendekatan berbasis percakapan dan media Movable Alphabet dapat memperkuat pemahaman simbol bunyi dan struktur kata pada anak tunarungu. Dengan demikian, metode Maternal Reflektif dengan media Movable Alphabet dapat menjadi alternatif dalam mengajarkan membaca permulaan bagi peserta didik tunarungu. Early reading skills are fundamental competencies that are crucial for all students, including deaf students. Reading is a complex skill because it involves language comprehension and the understanding of sound-symbol relationships, especially for deaf students. Limited access to spoken language and minimal auditory experiences affect their language development. Therefore, deaf students require instructional methods and media that can support both spoken and written language comprehension in learning to read. This study aims to determine the effect of the Reflective Maternal Method using Movable Alphabet media on the early reading skills of deaf students. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design involving six second-grade deaf students at a special needs elementary school (SDLB). The results showed that the Reflective Maternal Method with Movable Alphabet media significantly improved the early reading skills of deaf students. This effect is evidenced by the Asymp. Sig. value of 0.027, which is less than 0.05. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test indicated a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. This improvement suggests that integrating a conversation-based approach with the Movable Alphabet media can enhance the understanding of sound symbols and word structure in deaf children. Therefore, the Reflective Maternal Method with Movable Alphabet media can be considered an alternative method for teaching early reading to deaf students.
