    Abstract

    Penelitian ini membahas representasi identitas diri dalam lirik lagu-lagu dari album Map of the Soul milik grup idola asal Korea Selatan, BTS. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kebutuhan untuk memahami bagaimana budaya populer, khususnya musik K-pop. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk dapat menjadi medium artikulasi pengalaman psikologis dan sosial, termasuk pergulatan individu dalam menemukan dan memahami jati dirinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes. Data berupa lirik lagu dari album Map of the Soul. Analisis dilakukan melalui tiga tahapan makna, yaitu denotasi (makna literal), konotasi (makna subjektif dan emosional), dan mitos (makna ideologis dan budaya). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa BTS merepresentasikan identitas diri sebagai suatu proses yang dinamis, kompleks, dan tidak selalu stabil. Identitas ditampilkan sebagai hasil negosiasi antara tekanan sosial, ekspektasi publik, dan konflik internal. Lirik lagu dalam album ini mengungkap pencarian jati diri, pergulatan batin, serta rekonsiliasi individu terhadap sisi terang dan gelap dalam dirinya. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi terhadap kajian semiotika dan budaya populer, serta membuka ruang pemaknaan baru terhadap musik K-pop. This study discusses the representation of self-identity in the lyrics of songs from the South Korean idol group Map of the Soul album, BTS. This research has been attributed to the need to understand how popular culture is, especially K-pop music. The study also aims to be a medium of articulation of psychological and social experiences, including individual struggles in discovering and understanding their identity. This study used a qualitative descriptive method using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The analysis is done through three stages of meaning: denotation (literally meaning), connotation (subjective and emotional meaning), and myth (ideological and cultural meaning). Research shows that BTS represents self-identity as a dynamic, complex, and not always stable process. Identity is displayed as a result of negotiations between social pressure, public expectations, and internal conflicts. The lyrics of the song in this album reveal the search for identity, inner struggle, and reconciliation of individuals against the bright and dark sides of him. This research is expected to contribute to the study of semiotics and popular culture, as well as to open a new space of meaning to K-pop music. 본 연구는 한국의 아이돌 그룹 방탄소년단(BTS)의 앨범 “MAP OF THE SOUL”에 수록된 노래 가사에서 자신의 정체성을 어떻게 표현하는지를 분석하였다. 본 연구는 대중문화, 특히 K-pop 음악이 어떻게 개인의 정체성 형성과 표현에 기여할 수 있는지를 이해할 필요성에서 출발하였다. 또한, 본 연구는 개인이 자신의 정체성을 찾고 이해하는 과정에서 겪는 심리적, 사회적 경험을 표현하는 매개체로서 음악 가사의 역할을 조명하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 연구는 롤랑 바르트(Roland Barthes)의 기호학적 접근을 바탕으로 한 질적 서술적 방법을 사용하였다. 해석은 바르트의 신화 이론을 적용하여 주관적이고 감정적인 의미를 포함한 세 가지 의미 작용 단계를 통해 수행되었다. 연구 결과에 따르면, 방탄소년단은 정체성을 고정된 것이 아닌 역동적이고 복합적인 것으로 인식하며, 사회적 압력, 대중의 기대, 그리고 내면의 갈등 사이에서 정체성을 끊임없이 협상하고 표현하는 과정을 보여준다. 이 앨범의 노래 가사는 개인의 밝은 면과 어두운 면, 내면의 투쟁, 그리고 자아와의 화해를 통해 정체성을 탐색하는 과정을 담아낸다. 본 연구는 기호학과 대중문화 연구에 기여하며, K-pop 음악에 대한 새로운 의미와 해석의 가능성을 제시한다.
