Abstract
Critical thinking ability is one of the important competencies of the 21st century, but it is still relatively low in science learning in elementary schools. Efforts to improve it can be done through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Augmented Reality media which encourages active student involvement. This study aims to: (1) Determine the increase in critical thinking skills in science of students who receive the PBL model assisted by Augmented Reality compared to Discovery Learning assisted by PowerPoint, and (2) Determine the effect of the application of the PBL model assisted by Augmented Reality on improving students' critical thinking skills. The method used is a quasi experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects of the study were grade IV students of SDN Purwamekar. Data collection techniques used tests and documentation. The results showed that: (1) The increase in students' critical thinking skills in science through the PBL model assisted by Augmented Reality was better (77.31%) than the Discovery Learning model assisted by Powerpoint (66.98%), and (2) The effect of the PBL model assisted by Augmented Reality was 54.70%. Thus, the model is effective in improving students' critical thinking skills in science.
