    Abstract

    Anak tunarungu mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami informasi verbal karena hambatan pendengaran yang berdampak pada kesulitan memahami informasi. Dalam konteks mitigasi bencana gempa bumi, keterbatasan pemahaman ini bisa membahayakan keselamatan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan metode pembelajaran yang sesuai dengan karakteristik anak tunarungu yaitu visual, salah satunya metode mind mapping. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan metode mind mapping dalam meningkatkan pemahaman anak tunarungu terhadap materi edukasi mitigasi bencana alam gempa bumi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian pra eksperimen yang berbentuk the one group pretest-posttest design. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah enam orang anak tunarungu kelas VIII di SLB Negeri 2 Sentra PKPLK Kota Cimahi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes tertulis, dengan indikator aspek pemahaman yaitu penerjemahan, penafsiran dan ekstrapolasi. Data analisis dengan membandingkan hasil pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setelah perlakuan dilakukan terdapat peningkatan skor. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa dengan menggunakan metode mind mapping dapat berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan pemahaman anak tunarungu terhadap materi edukasi mitigasi bencana alam gempa bumi. Peningkatan pemahaman anak menunjukkan bahwa metode mind mapping mampu memfasilitasi karakteristik belajar anak tunarungu dan memperkuat daya ingat melalui pengorganisasian konsep dalam bentuk visual yang sistematik. Disarankan agar guru mengintegrasikan metode mind mapping dalam pembelajaran terutama pada materi yang bersifat konseptual dan membutuhkan pemahaman mendalam, seperti mitigasi bencana. Pemerintah dan lembaga pendidikan juga perlu mengembangkan informasi berbasis visual yang dapat diakses oleh anak tunarungu untuk mendukung kesigapan bencana secara inklusif. In the context of earthquake disaster mitigation, this limitation poses a significant risk to their safety. Therefore, learning methods that align with their visual learning characteristics are essential. One such method is mind mapping, which organizes information in a visual and structured manner. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the mind mapping method in enhancing the understanding of earthquake disaster mitigation education among deaf students. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group pretest-posttest model. The participants were six eighth-grade deaf students from SLB Negeri 2 Sentra PKPLK, Cimahi City. Data were collected through written tests, with comprehension assessed across three indicators: translation, interpretation, and extrapolation. The data were analyzed by comparing pretest and posttest scores. The findings revealed an increase in students’ scores following the intervention, indicating that the mind mapping method had a positive impact on their understanding of the material. This improvement suggests that mind mapping supports the visual learning characteristics of deaf students and strengthens memory retention by organizing concepts in a structured visual format. It is recommended that teachers incorporate mind mapping into lessons, particularly for conceptual subjects requiring in-depth comprehension, such as disaster mitigation. Additionally, governments and educational institutions should develop accessible, visually-based information to support inclusive disaster preparedness for deaf children.
